Seems odd there are issues around this, yet as I have already said which I think is stupid that connects have told me you have a choice aftermarkrt HU with steering controls or parrot with OEM and steering controls, I may look at another route yet tho in the sense off will the 007 control the volume output off the HU if its aftermarket as well as the parrot or will it just control the parrot? I think how connects do it is make the unit control the volume on just the item, ie - parrot volume control is used to control it so in right my idea wont work.

Still think its daft connects2 units wont work together to allow aftermarket HU and Parrot at the same time on sterring

Just to confirm because i know that cassa d you where having trouble, does this work with the tape business unit? cheers

yes mate i am having problems with this but im changing the connects2 unit over next week

so i will post if it works or not .

hopefully it does work it shows a tape unit on the link to ebay i put up for the connects2 unit

if anyone else has either done this upgrade using the tape h/u it would be nice to know if it dont work

cos i could then get my money back instead of just exchanging the unit.

I hope it works too as I have everything ready to be fitted this weekend so I guess I will see soon enough

Good luck mate.

Is there a difference between the ck3000 and the ck3000 "black" edition?

color option is the only difference and the black color will be the latest production which also means latest firmware.

I been getting a few PMs from folks with GPS Factory Navigation units looking for the 17 pin A Connector in their cars or wondering if they have the same connections.

From what I can tell you do have the same A Connector but it is location in the trunk with teh GPS Computer ECU/DVD module.

and it will look like this

trunkelecm3.jpg

trunkcoaxsm3.jpg

So you will need to hook up the parrot ck3000 and ctppar007 all in this trunk space and run the mic thru to the cabin dash area. The ck3000 mic wire is long enough to pass thru the firewall into the cabin along the driver's side and you can place it on the dash or A p!llar column. If it is short you can get a mic cable extender at Tandy or any electronics store.

Is it definately in the trunk? I have looked at the following site and there don't seem to be any mention of a seperate unit.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?mode...hg=65&fg=45

Because you have the on board monitor you should have the BM53 receiver in the trunk and you do not have the CD53 head unit in the dash. I found the parts number with a picture from a 12/02 E46. Funny thing is the picture shows that the 17 pin connector is not the same on the BM53 instead it has the ctppar008 style 40 flat pin connector.

So you would definitely NEED to open up your trunk lining and pull this unit out to confirm what it has before ordering the ctppar007. As you may end up needing the ctppar008 or a relevant adapter for the DIY.

I just did this today and I then quickly took everything out, put all the parts back in their box and send them back for a refund.

First, the combination with an iPod integration is not possible (especially if you have a DICE). As long as the DICE was plugged in the Parrot/Connects2 would not come up. As soon as the DICE was unplugged the others started working. I was prepared to lose my DICE but then two other problems came up: The Parrot/Connects2 is not working very well with an iPhone. The only thing that I managed to do was to receive a call and to redial a number previously called from my phone. The sound quality was very good but not having full functionality defeats the purpose. Also, the whole thing is a bit slow and I got the impression that at some point it will throw a strop. I like my stuff to work perfectly so this arrangement was not for me. I think, however, that if you have a different phone and no DICE it seems to be good value for money/effort.

I am personally going to wait and see what happens with the group buy for a Dynavin and give it a go. If not, I am going to stick it out until I buy my next BMW which I will make sure to have what I want installed from the factory.

Thanks very much for the write-up Delmarco. You are an asset to such forums.

PS: Does anyone know which year BMW Business CD players added MP3 playback functionality? This might work for me in the short term.

So you couldn't make a call with the iPhone? Receiving calls is my main issue if I'm honest but it would be nice to make calls too. Gotta love the iPhones but their compatibility with other devices seems to be lacking a bit! Which iPhone model do you have by the way?

I must agree that del marco is a real asset to e46zone!!

I could receive calls without having to touch the phone but I had to dial from the phone to make outgoing calls. You cannot export your contacts via bluetooth from the iPhone so I guess that's the problem. I think that maybe if you could load all your contacts on a different phone and transfer them to Parrot it could then work but I could not be bothered to be honest.

I have a 3G 16GB by the way. I often say that there is nothing wrong with Macs; it's all the other stuff that are not compatible with them that are at fault... Just joking, I know what you mean.

That's what I thought too but it was not doing it. I tried it for a long time with a friend who really knows what he is doing and had no luck. Maybe if I had a 3GS iPhone it would work? Anyway, I returned it all now so it is purely academic that I ask.

What did you connect it? to an aftermarket stereo? I'm pretty sure it won't work with that.

No problem. Sorry to hear it didn't work with the DICE or iPhone. I know on the USA forums some folks had the same issues you had but downloaded an App from Apple that allowed voice dial and BT compatibility for the iPhones that came without these features. It also fixed the clarity issues with the iPhones.

I saw this answer somewhere but can't for the life of me find it again: what model year or manufacturing date started getting the latest version of the Business CD head that could read mp3s? (Trying to find one on ebay.)

9/04+ models (Business CD) are MP3/WMA compatible.

This is WRONG info! The prodution date has little to do with anything when it comes to buying a quality unit. I spent the last 9 months researching for a new MP3 capable unit for my own car and the information below is what I found out.

Here is the complete list of all the BMW Business CD53 Units manufactured and dispatched for the E46 cars from 1998 to 2007:

Prefacelifted E46 Cars

Blaupunkt, Part Number 6512-6 909 883

Becker, Part Number 65.12-8 387 507 (Mar 2001)

VDO(?), Part Number 6512 6976886-03 (Jun 2006) MP3 Capable

NOTE: If you find any BMW Business CD53 Radio Unit with a production year date sticker on it that is later than these production dates corresponding to each part number unit (IE. a year date that is 05, 06, 07, 08) it is most certain that those units are re-manufactured/refurbished under warranty and re-labeled to reflect the date of re-manufacture. This is especially true for the factory recalled MP3-capable BMW Part Number 65. 12-6 943 429 unit which is always re-labeled to become BMW Part Number 65. 12-6 943 430 after refurbishment.

From that information we see that only five BMW Business CD53 Radio Parts Number for the E46 cars has MP3 playback (along with Sirius and Aux dual Datalink inputs.)

These first three I know nothing about as they are Parts Number specific to Eastern and Western European BMW E46

VDO(?), Part Number 6512 6943435-02 (Apr 2005)

VDO(?), Part Number 6512 6976885-01 (Sep 2005)

VDO(?), Part Number 6512 6976886-03 (Jun 2006)

The remaining two are USA/UK Alpine units...

Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 (and it's Re-manufactured/Refurbished counterpart CD53 units with Part Number 65.12-6 943 430). The BMW Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 CD53s were plagued with many many many problems and there was even a factory recall of these units at one point of their hectic production lifespan hence why you come across many BMW Part Number: 65.12-6 943 430 CD53s on eBay today. These are Re-manufactured/Refurbished versions of the original Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 Business CD53 Radios even though the sellers of these units won't mention that to you.

AND

Part Number: 65.12-6 961 215 will also give your car MP3 playback ability. These were superior post stock original production units that were made on the last production E46 coupes, convertibles and M3 cars from late 2005 until late 2006/ 2007. If you come across one of these on eBay for under $300 then immediately buy it! These will give you the full capacity and digital function of all the previous CD53 Radios including MP3 playback and it lacks the refurbished and buggy history that the Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 units come with.

NOTE:

They are lots of sellers that try to bump up the price of their Re-manufactured/Re-furbished Part Number: 65.12-6 943 430 units because they will tell you it has a late production date like NOV 05 or something like JAN 07 and the quality or newness is better. This is to pretty much scam you into buying a refurbished unit for more money than those units are actually worth relative to the original Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 units (which can come with bugs and can be pretty much something you may want to avoid). I would try to seek out a Part Number: 65.12-6 961 215 unit where ever you decide to buy your unit from. Even if it a BMW Dealership make sure you ask for the Part Number: 65.12-6 961 215 unit since they may charge you the same price as a 65.12-6 943 430 unit of over $1,000 for it.

Here are some pictures of the superior CD53 Part Number: 65.12-6 961 215 Radio and their respective labels;

I just bought this unit on eBay for my car with this sticker on the bottom. (I was lucky to find it for $200 BUY IT NOW) :

be6sbmwbgkkgrhqehcuerez.jpg

Here is another pristine unit made in May 06 that is on eBay right now for $298:

Image57.jpg

Image58.jpg

Image59.jpg

In these pictures below you will see how this slick eBay seller tries to peel away the Remanufactured Parts# sticker to reveal the original Parts# beneath so that he can bump up the price. He is selling his units for $309 and $319 based on the prod dates of NOV 04 and FEB 05 respectively claiming the later build date deserves the price increase when both of these units are most likely refurbished versions of their bug ridden/factory recalled Part Number: 65.12-6 943 429 original units.

dsc0209i.jpg

dsc01223s.jpg

A general rule of thumb for visually inspecting if the unit has MP3 digital capabilities is that the Business CD53 Radio that play MP3 files usually has the black trim along the same side as the pin17 connectior-input that is in the back.

dsc1614s.jpg

And it should ALWAYS be an Alpine-made unit that has the MODE button in the place of the older Blaupunkt CD button under the AM/FM buttons.

I can't get the fans out for love nor money. Do they come put in the same way for the facelift coupes?

Scrap that, I got it out with a bit of muscle and use of screwdriver as leverage! Just finished taking out the kit the old owner had put in. What a bodge job they had done!!
