Bmw E46 Integrated Bluetooth And Voice Command For Less Than £65 Pictorial Diy

Recommended Posts

Hmmm...the first day or two, I was told that the bluetooth sounded great!!! But since then, I'm being told that I sound muffled, background noise and static. I called my answering machine and spoke for about 2-3 minutes and it surely isn't crystal clear. Before I drop the glovebox, anyone with troubleshooting ideas? FYI, I'm using a Touch Pro on Sprint and haven't changed anything with the phone.

Best Advice is to drop your glove box and check the connections then pull out your radio and unplug and plug the connector back onto the radio. Also unplugging your battery may remedy it as well.

On a side note when I was installing my USA-Spec iPod Data Unit last weekend I had to drop the glove box to store the Spec unit next to the Parrot Blue box and funny enough I noticed my Parrot Controller red/green buttons were active and lit up (as the car and the radio and bluetooth was on with the engine running). Pushing these red/green buttons and dial button activated the call features and setting features of the Bluetooth. I also noticed that it was squished in there between all the wiring and stuff behind the glove box.

The thought that occurred to me is that if your controller buttons are wedged in a getting constantly pressed by nearby objects then it may result in poor sound performance, issues with the steering wheel control buttons and all other types of weirdness.

So be sure to make sure the controller and it's buttons are all clear from contact with wiring and objects.

And yes the buttons on the little bugger are really very very very sensitive . As I was installing my USA-Spec I kept setting of the Bluetooth's voice/language settings everytime I brushed against the thing.

I been getting a few PMs from folks with GPS Factory Navigation units looking for the 17 pin A Connector in their cars or wondering if they have the same connections.

From what I can tell you do have the same A Connector but it is location in the trunk with the GPS Computer ECU/DVD module.

and it will look like this

So you will need to hook up the parrot ck3000 and ctppar007 all in this trunk space and run the mic thru to the cabin dash area. The ck3000 mic wire is long enough to pass thru the firewall into the cabin along the driver's side and you can place it on the dash or A p!llar column. If it is short you can get a mic cable extender at Tandy or any electronics store.

Quick question guys,

Will this work if you have got factory fitted car phone? My 03/2001 e46 has the Motorola V3690 mobile fitted and hooked up via the business cd head unit and mf steering wheel.

Your input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Will it work - Yes, will it be simple plug and play - Not so sure! If you take out your radio and get a few decent snaps of what the wiring looks like I, or someone else, may be able to help. I'm just not sure of how they wire in the phone prep. There was an aftermarket system for a nokia in mine which I just disconnected and taped up loose wires.

Brilliant DIY write up Delmarco

I have just installed this in my (new to me) 330 ci convertible. There were only three problems:

  1. getting the air vents out took more courage and effort than expected - in spite of notes on here
  2. removing the exiting Nokia kit that had been poorly fitted and didn't mute the radio. They had cut into the wiring harness to the back of the radio and made some very dodgy connections.
  3. working out the the ignition key had to be in position 2 before the steering wheel controls worked. Minor panic on that one.

Rain stopped play so fitting the mic and re-fitting the glove box will have to wait. I have managed to remove the central lighting rig easily and there is a position for the mic. Just need some dry weather so I can flip the roof and run the wires up.

Now need a new trim panel where the Nokia button was glued on.

I still have nightmares about getting those vents out! There MUST a knack to it but I don't know what it is lol. I Think I was the one that posted about a bodge job installation of a nokia kit earlier in the thread. I just taped mine up. Didn't want to start making even more of a bodge job on the removal lol!

Make sure you don't have any screws left over from the glove box like I did lol. Oh and my blue box didn't fit where Del Marco put his so keep that in mind if you find your glove box won't go back in. Took a bit of head scratching before I worked out it was that when my g'box wouldn't fit back in!

Neither did mine (fit). I taped it up on the side panel. Hopefully it won't start rattling.

The mic is in place now. Really tidy - you can't see it - but reportedly sounding a little distant. I will take some more opinions before I bother adjusting it.

Overall I'm delighted.

Hi Guys,

I will be doing this mod soon but instead of using the Parrot 3000 Evolution I will be using the newer Mki9000.

Main reason for this is the poor availability of 2nd hand 3000's on ebay. Many are highly priced so you may as well get the latest Parrot product for a little bit more.

I am also hoping that the newer model will be able to display the contact name from the phone book on the radio for incoming calls instead of 'phone'.

What is needed:

1 x Parrot MKi9000 kit

1 x Connects 2 CTUNIPAR05

1 x Connects 2 CTUNIBM02

1 x Parrot PR2626 Mic to replace the twin mic included in the MKi9000 kit.

I have received my parrot kit of ebay, just need to order the CTPPAR007.

I have the tape head unit with the CD changer in the boot.

Its a (sept 2001) facelift model (touring 318i).

I take it that the CTPPAR007 should work with that head unit?!?

EDIT: Guess I will find out soon just ordered one off ebay

Managed to fit the kit to my car and works spot on!

Air vents were a paint to remove.

I have managed to snap the aerial connector than come from the back of the business tape deck. B)

Is there anywhere that sell just the aerial connector or is it a case of buying a new OEM unit?

On the up side bluetooth now works with my car.

The only other issue I have it getting the microphone wire to stay around the top of the windscreen.

I'm fairly certain any car audio shop should stock them. It's just a connector afterall. If not it'll be a cheap part from the dealer.

You have to stick the microphone to the back of the wingmirror. It won't stick to the windshield or headlining (well mine wouldn't anyway)

I rang BMW and they don't sell the part separate

Will have to try a car audio place

Hmmm really? I thought it'd be a fairly easy part to find. I know there are conversion kits from the old type to the new type so surely you could use one of those (chop off the bit you don't need). Gimme a few minutes and I'll have a look about for you.
