peakey
Guys, Is this the same with the digital radio ? I spoke with TTints and they said that the a DVB-T tuner covers DAB radio too which i was not aware of, can anyone confirm ? Do you get the same problems concerning signal with the digital radio too ? Cheers
RickyZ
There may be a small capital outlay for additional equipment (such as a set-top box) required as some television sets are not capable of decoding the digital signal. In order to receive Freeview, you have two options: 1) Purchase a new television that has a built-in Freeview receiver. This may be more of an added expense than you had previously hoped for, but if you were planning to replace your television anyway, this is probably the best route to go. 2) Purchase a special set-top box that allows your existing television to receive digital television signals. If you do not wish to purchase an entirely new television then this option will probably appeal to you and it will work just as effectively. Digital set-top boxes are currently available for purchase and will allow your existing television to receive the digital new programmes now and after the switchover. Taken from the Big Switchover site. There is a digital signal being directed at my house. It comes down the aerial and hits my freeview box, at which point it gets decoded and displayed on my screen. With the Dynavin, the signal hits the aerial, hits the box and then gets converted and shown on screen. It's really simple in my mind and I can't find any reading that says anything different. If yours isn't working then I'm clearly missing something. I don't understand how a digital receiver can't pick up a digital signal and be displayed on the unit. I tried googling it but I'm either misreading or not reading the correct parts. Can you point me in the right direction as I'd like to understand this fully. (I like to learn!) ETA: Once the switchover has completed there will no longer be any analogue signals; equipment that is designed to receive only analogue signals will not work with the new digital signal. <--- That is from the Digital UK website. Trust me, you will need a freeview box (or satellite or cable or Digital ready TV) +2 Scrimja your are indeed correct hence why there is a big fuss over it all in the first place LOL
paulfoley30
I am have a degree in electrical engineering, and I can reconfirm what everybody has been saying: 1. You need a set top box or a TV with one built in to get digital TV 2. Even after the digital switchover an analogue TV will not be able to show anything You will however (as far as I am aware) have to retune the decoder to the frequencies of your local area as they are different around the country to avoid interferance (like with FM where the frequencies for national radio stations are within a range - this is to reduce interferance and why LM/MW always sounds so crap) this could be the reason why you can't find anything in London. I knew I was right . You reckon that a simple retune of the channels would sort it out then? If not, I'm wondering if the Dynavin will only work in certain areas or something stupid like that. Why wouldn't I be surprised...

paulfoley30
2012 is the year analogue tv switches over to digital tv then you will get freeview chanels without the need for satalite dish , cable box or freeview box basicly the dynavin will only pick up tv in the areas that have switched over i was in wales at the weekend & picked up freeview chanels as they have switched over hope this explains it & im in highgate n6 hahahaha ... you dont need a degree to know that an analogue TV wont pick up digital broadcasts !!! I didn't think so either I knew I was right . You reckon that a simple retune of the channels would sort it out then? I don't think I'd be surprised either mate, I think a simple retune should work - infact I'm surprised it isn't in the software to just do it automatically already so that if your moving you don't lose signal (for the screens in the back obviously )
Danw8986
yea Scrimja you are right. However if im not mistaken the digital signal is different in london and wales when i was at uni in bham i had to retune me digi box every time i went home so i think it should be a simple thing like retuning if this dosen't work you may need to move the tv areal as the signal gets blocked allot more in london due to large buildings and large metal structures were as wales dosent if its in a good position already try have a look at digital signal boosters

I think any mobile digital TV system is going to have trouble with picture quality, especially as the size of the ariel is going to be severely limited by where you can put it in the car. Though not being surrounded by massive steel buildings will help the quality a lot
Beaky
Hi there, now that you had it for over a month could you kindly update us on your observations, likes/dislikes, issues etc One issue that has been on the US forums is bleed/hiss noise from the radio, has your unit suffered? peakey
Looks like TTInts may be feeling the pinch ! Its still £750 on thier site but thier latest auction has a unit starting at 600 which i assume is the price they will accept, i wonder if that includes fitting !! Gaz
Not only that, but they've also lost a lot of customers even if they do lower the price. If they'd kept the price low we all would have bought there and then. Now they've made us wait for a lower price we've found alternatives which look more promising. Thank you Hi Beaky mate. I will add a more detailed post with my update in the near future. I have updated the Sat Nav software (much better) and there are a few guys making an interface update which looks really good (a change in design). I will report on that when I have further news (hopefully soon). With regards to the hiss/bleed I am afraid to say these units do still suffer from this (although not as badly as the first units). However it is only audible at low volumes, and only when you are sat in the car at a standstill playing around with the unit. When listening to music/TV/dvd etc at a normal volume it can't be heard. I will install a LOC at some point which apparently resolves this issue (Dynavin are currently developing one). Overall I am very happy with this unit, and I have no regrets in purchasing it . I look forward to the the next instalment Cheers

I look forward to the the next instalment Cheers No mate, I went with the latest version of Igo. I have installed new skins etc and now I really like it. It does have speed camera functionality (only fixed cameras) but no live traffic updates. A feature I really like with the latest version of Igo is the ability to set the speed camera warning to only go off when you are speeding, this stops the annoying beeps every 5 minutes. You can also set the speed that you are speeding before it goes off (ie only going off when 5 MPH or more over the limit). I will write a full update as soon as I can mate! I have a version 1 Dynavin, and upgraded to igo 8.3. With this version you are able to get the live traffic reports using the TMC function. Couldn't get it working on igo 8.0 for some reason, but it works well on the newer version. I've had mine in for about 2 months now and I am still really happy with it. Just a shame that the price got stupid. Have been doing some research regarding alternative digital aerials - if it could pick up digital radio on the move that would make it awesome
peakey
Guys, Just looking at the latest add from TTints on eBay and they are now quoting an extra £160 for the DVB-T/DAB ? Didn't the original units have all that built in ? This is all getting quite annoying, i have been looking at this and the other similar unit for a couple of months now but everytime i look to make a purchase either the units are held back or turns out i need to pay another £100 ! The OEM looking knobs are exactly like it and has a rubberized feel to it too. Here is my install from a few days ago
