Hey guys! New to the site and have just purchases a 318ci M-sport coupe. It has had a twin pipe adapter put onto the back box removing the normal single pipe. I'm guessing this means it wont have a butterfly valve? Cheers!

Hey,

So are you guys saying this will not work on 325's?

I have a 325ti Compact. Had a little look this evening around the back box area but could not see anything. Can't get under the side of the car due to my M side skirts.

Laurie.

Mine was rusted shut, I have now opened it :o

Is it necessary to still unplug the hose and plug it with a tee if mine was rusted shut? Can I just leave the hose still plugged in as it stays open due to being rusted?

Many thanks for a great little mod :D

Ive disconnected the pump and removed it. But noticed there is another hose going towards the engine bay, where does this go exactly, and what does it do?

All it does is stop the vacuum being used. But i doubt anything could get back to the air intake as there is a vacuum reservoir. I never bothered TBH, but for the sake of it you may as well, or just bend it in half an cable tie it. Or disconnect the solenoid.

ive just wired the valve in mine to a latching push button so i can be nice and quite or loud and annoying with the rasp lol

Sounds like a great idea to have the best of both worlds, and I fancy doing the same on my 330i M-Sport Touring. Is the solenid coil easy to access, and where did you bring the cables into the cabin? Finally. as I don't fancy drilling too many holes in the car, where did you locate the switch.

Thanks & regards

Great guide, did this to my 330 about a month ago now and the sound difference is quite noticeable - and I like it

Mine had rusted shut so I spent the first few months of ownership driving around with only one pipe working. I opened it with some specialist tools* and thought it would stay open - it appeared the vacuum would allow it to close again but not open when required. So the hose came off and got plugged!

*screwdriver and a big hammer

Hi guys i had a look at mine this morning and all the components seem to be there i.e pipe and butterfly valve. Now my butterfly valve isn't rusted shut as i can freely move it with my finger. My questions are is when my car is off and even idleling the valve remains open is it supposed too? Also i had my old man rev the car upto 3000 and hold it there for a sec and it never closed so does the car have to be in gear driving around for it too? Can someone let us know as i wanna do the mod but not sure if theres any point if its open but cant tell if it closes unless i crawl after the car looking like a monkey after a banana while looking down the pipe lol

Hi mine was really quiet when only 1 pipe working sounds like yours is staying open the whole time lol is your pipe already disconnected from the valve? good luck duracell.

I looked at the pipe and its still connected mate, but does it only close when the car is in gear moving being above 1000rpm then opens again at 3000rpm like its supposed to is the question lol
