Keith's 1998 M3 Evolution Individual

Recommended Posts

+1! :D

Keith, i've got ask, have you had anyone ask: "Is it a real one" yet?

Yep. Twice. Doesn't bother me though, the only peoples opinions I care about will know it's no fake.

I was asked once when I went to get my alignment done (so he could pull up the correct settings).

And once just the other day at a petrol station, by a young rudebwoy:

'Is dat a real M3 bhruv?

'Yeah man'.

'Issss it... Niiice blud. Is it fast yeah?'.

'Yeah.'

'Wicked.'

Forgot to add - the Gruppe M sounds absolutely mental. I love it sooo much.

When you bury your foot into the carpet and open the TBs right out 100%, as soon as it goes above 4500, it sounds properly insane - it's addictive, and will be costing me a lot of fuel no doubt. Much like your Eisenmann I bet Das?! :D

I got it alot in my E36 in it's first guise - difference is i had to admit it was a 318is lol.

It's a shame there are soooo many so called M3 rep's around, it waters down the novelty of seeing a real one. Atleast you've got the gruppe M now, it should let people in the know... know!

If you like driving like a c**k and egging people on, you could reply with 'Find out for yourself'

Nah man. Won't race people unless I know they are a good driver and won't take stupid risks.

I'd rather baffle the rude boys by starting it up and saying 'Course it's a real one - can't you hear the mechanical lifters?'

Dude, thanks for the compliment!

Morea green is great colour. Not only that, but the E36 lines are so good (IMO) that engine size doesn't matter - you could still turn it into a proper-sweet cruiser.

I love this e36coupe.com forum member's 318 - all he's done is sort a killer stance and rims - rest is just DIY tints etc

Started off like this...

And on a shoestring budget (most of which went on Style 5's), ended up looking like this... B)

I'd love a killer E36 318 to cruise about in.

well as a former e36 owner having owned 2 328 sports and 2 m3's one 3.0 and a evo all of mine were de-spoilered bar one of the 328's which was a indidvdual order and did not come with one

just look above at the lines of that e36 they are square and your spoiler is (although rare and looks ok) curved they look soooo much smoother/cleaner imo thats my pennies worth anyhow B) and you must admit that e36 above looks stunning

as for the journal great read and work again and the car is class makes me want rid of my 330 and jump back into a old girl again :)

Insurance is mental on it tbh. My M Coupe was worth well over twice as much, and is more twitchy in the wet. Yet they wanted £300 more for this, and I've only got 8months left!

No idea how often mate - mine are one-piece, so I'll just be autosoling them anytime they look a bit a dull. Maybe a quick clean twice a week, a proper clean and wax every week and an autosol and wax every 2 weeks - no doubt that'll have to be more in the winter.

Just keep an eye on them.

I agree about the lines... Hence why I am in two minds...

Without spoiler looks so good too...

Love these journals Keith and can't help but admire your dedication to your cars - top class mate. When I bought my M3 it was a bit tatty and needed a few things sorting out to bring it up to a mint standard. Reading through your journals gives me the inspiration to sort the issues with mine out. Car look well tidy and i have to admit I now look at E36's in a different light as I really wasn't a fan. Keep it up B)

Keith, great work man. Car is looking sweet. I would stick with the spoiler, I think it suits the car in this instance.

Reading this thread (and all the others you do) just makes you realise something, if anyone was to ask "why" about all the small things you do, reading this gives the answer....the answer is "because it matters".

That got me thinking, the sig pic lets this down (with the paint copy and paste), so I quickly knocked the following up. You might like it - you might not, but feel free to use it if you do, or let me know if you want it changed.

Keith - yet again your work is so superb you make me want to cry. My attention to detail comes nowhere near yours. It would be an honour to own a car after it's been in your charge. :)

Singh - NICE sig there!

'Because it ///Matters' could be a really good forum tagline! B)

Lol at Psy, thanks dude, dont cry :) Really appreciate the comments though man. People keep saying 'attention to detail', but really, it's just systematically working through the things that bug me. If something is tatty, get a new bit. If something is faulty, fix it. If something can look better, try it. It's simple man, and because it's my hobby it's a nice way to keep busy.

Sorry Singh, I missed the sig until it got bumped! Thanks man! Like it! Can I he reall picky though? Can you do something with the current picture though? I really love the front-on shot. And can you make the band with the text is more translucent, so it's barely there, but you can still see it? That'd be perfect

Thanks for he effort and the comments though mate B)

A mate did this chop for me with no spoiler...

?

Minor Update.

Loads more arrived in the post but yet to be fitted... Including a brand new and boxed Evo Splitter from a forum newbie over on e36coupe.com, who posted it up, and then quickly had his post deleted (he only had about 15 posts and you need 100). I spotted it just after he posted, and bagged it for £28 delivered. Bargain.

Also won these on eBay for 99p...

Now they look a bit faded, but are genuine BMW, and in overall good condition. I will be trying the amber look very soon, but what is absolutely crucial for me, is they will only be put on if I can these looking a real deep, rich, orange. Without that, ambers just do not work for me at all, and its a very deliberate look I'm after. I'm very particular on this.

I'm thinking washing the inside with alcohol to leave no water marks which may dull it further, then the old trick of machine polishing the outside face and then lacquering. I wanted to get some deep-orange Lamin-X, but it does not exist, and can't find any other reasonably priced Amber tint film (anyone know of any)?

If that still does not look deep enough, I am considering buying some of THIS. I've heard its a very good, translucent spray used by model builders. This should hopefully give a really glossy and deep orange finish.

To give you an idea of the look I'm after, see here and note how deep in colour they are;

Ignore the overall style of the first car - not my cup of tea at all

3761330416_7132458745_o.jpg

So that's the aim.

Love it or hate it, I'm only doing front indicators too, not all round (I don't think so anyway - but lets not debate that, just roll with it  ). Again... Note this for reference; http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/mikebmw/yeazx.jpg

So, anyone got some ideas on how to get that deep, crisp, rich amber colour I'm after, other than what I've suggested? I'm keen to hear your thoughts.

Also got some new side repeaters delivered from Cotswold too, to continue freshening her up visually:

New and Old

However, one of them had a manufacturing default (bonding glue was visible and seal did not sit right) so is on its way back, and a new one will be sent out to me.
