M3 Interior Installed. Two Tone Door Cards.

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a grey M3 interior to replace the black sports seats. I really like the two tone look, and found a nice grey set on Pistonheads. The set was in excellent condition with only minor wear to the drivers bolster (they are from a 2006 car).

Obviously to obtain the two tone look I was after I had to remove the leather inserts from the door cards and put them on my current black ones. This was a bit tiresome, but I feel the results are well worth it. I love the M3 seats, they look and feel great. I am loving the electric bolster adjustment and lumbar supports, they really add to the comfort... I also love the leather feel, it is so much softer than the standard sport seats.

I am really happy with the results. It was hard work, but definitely worth it!

Looks amazing. Do you have to do anything to get the electric bolster and the lumbar support working? Would love both those things! I saw a nice grey leather set on pistonheads for £550 the other day that I had to fight myself not to buy!

Sweet. Grey M3 interior here I come. What's a good price for a decent condition one? Been looking at this one but not sure if the price is good or not.

Thats a good price. Id ask for some better pictures of the wear on the drivers boulster tho to see how bad it really is. Mine were up for £700 but got them for £625 but they are mint, even by my anal standards ;)

Cheers for the comments :P

Jamesy, the door card probably took around 4 - 6 hours in total. The first couple of door cards took a while, but once you get going the process speeds up.

Gaz,

As Stringy has said all the electrics work fine, it is a simple case of plug and play. The seats you are looking at on Pistonheads is where I got mine from, he had two sets to sell! The seller is a decent chap, and from what I can remember the set he has remaining is in pretty good condition. I am very pleased with the condition of the set I bought...

The only thing i'd say is it looks brilliant, apart from the fact that the dash is now out of place, i'd personally paint or vinyl your trim on the dash and around the gear shift in the same grey as the leather. That way the colour tones will flow around the dash to, and will keep it all looking top

Apart from that, good job Rookie! :P

I understand what you are saying mate. I have been looking into getting grey leather gear gaiter, handbrake cover and arm rest cover. I hadn't thought about the trim on the dash, but now you say mention it I really like that idea... I will get the gear/hanbrake gaiters and armrests sorted and see how it looks. I will see if I can get some cheap dash trim to experiment with the dash.

Looks good mate, I would do the plastic seat backs and switch surrounds too, I makes it look like and OEM install then :(

I was going to get the replacement switch covers, these can be purchased relatively cheaply. I hadn't thought about the seat backs, but again I really like that idea. I have asked bmminiparts to quote me for a set of seat backs, if they are not to expensive I will probably do that.

I am looking into this mate, I am currently liaising with Bespoke leathering regarding some grey nappa covering :)

great!

lumbar support rocks! are these seats heated?

ooooh is that a dynavin ?

Aye the lumber support is really nice to have. Unfortunately these are not heated, can't have it all I guess!

It is indeed a Dynavin, see my post about the Dynavin here mate :(

Following suggestions on here I have made a few updates to the M3 interior I installed recently.

I have replaced the seat backs (thanks to Chris for sorting these out for me!) and switch surrounds from grey to black.

I bought a genuine BMW grey leather armrest from Ebay, I then seperated it and put the top on my current arm rest to continue the two tone theme.

I have also replced the gear stick gaiter and handbrake gaiter to grey leather.

Here is a before and after comparison...

I am really pleased with the results. I feel it enhances the two tone theme I was after, and breaks things up nicely. Looking back at the previous pictures I feel the seats were a bit too grey to get the look I was after. The suggestions in this thread inspired the choices I made, and I am really happy with the way it all worked out!
