Daz 330 Cs
You are aware the BMW nav is p**s poor arent you? IMO not worth the 1K premium they command over a non-nav M3. Looks 10 X better though
peakey
Looks 10 X better though You reckon ? I dont think there is a lot of difference, the user interface is much smarter on these new units.

starryboy
You are aware the BMW nav is p**s poor arent you? Your wrong dude! With a simple upgrade the BMW sat nav is capable of almost full post code nav and it pretty easy to use and has never failed me when the portable units have proved too much agro. FeelingLucky
You clearly don't like them. I think it's strange that you take time out of your day to slate OEM nav. Are you a distributor for the product in the OP? My biggest beef with the OEM NAV units is some E46 forums (M3Torque, Pistonheads) advise prospective purchasers that the higher end models (specifically M3) are practically unsaleable without them. Then, in the same breath, admit that as a "SAT NAV" specifically they're not very good, some even admitting to having a TomTom stuck to the windscreen. I find this madness in the extreme and elitist nonsense. To ANYBODY thinking of retrofitting, check out the BMW Nav set up, hardware, software and usage. It really is NOT that impressive, 10 years ago, probably a different story. But this is a tech product we're talking about here, and tech has moved on MASSIVELY in the last ten years. Also check out the alternative and make your OWN informed decision. I'll answer your question, despite the fact I doubt it was a serious one, NO, I have no vested interest in any product. Ive never seen anyone , on any Forum say that a Bmw is unsaleable without the Nav . The units mentioned in this Topic & the other 1 are not worth anywhere near what the UK distributors are charging . £750 ??
peakey
I have seen that a lot on the M3Cutters forum Daz, whenever a sale comes up guys are always going on about not even considering cars without all the gadgets, especially the Nav. I agree with FeelingLucky, which of course i would as my M3 doesn't have Nav :-), but you cant base your choice on gadgets. I have got totally pissed off with Car-Vision, they are a waste of space, I have now ordered the latest version of the Dynavin from Jeff in the US (established supplier on E46Fanatics), its in the post at the moment and looks the business, they have updated the screen (to reduce glare), the software (to be more BMW style) and the buttons for a much more OEM look. Check it out here. Oh and the cost is approx £450 inc postage, dont know about the customs charge yet if i get unlucky, I think that is great value for the tech. Check it out here. It does look a lot better now, and i would certainly consider it for myself if i didnt have Nav. But still only 7/10 and the iPhone compatibility not working properly would annoy me. My other concern would be buying one from abroad as i've already read of many people with these units who have had to get them replaced. I wouldnt fancy driving round with a hole in my dash while i waited for my replacement! But I would rather buy this than spend £1000 on factory Nav either way. "The phone book still doesnt work well with the iphone, the contacts do not transfer but you can access your recent dialed and received calls. Your results may vary depending on the phone. Ive had mixed results with calls, just like on the older dynavins I had the best results by using the built in mic and disconnecting the external mic.....I would suggest you experiment a bit as your results may vary" VERDICT: "I gave the old unit a 6/10.....with the improvements to the V5 I give it a 7/10 with potential to be an 8/10 if the ipod and USB interface improves, as it sits now it is a fantastic value, and a very good, if slightly flawed upgrade" Edit - My Nav gets used 3 or 4 times a week and its never been anything less than brilliant as far as I'm concerned. Especially with the Traffic updates telling you there are queues and re-routing you. It shows speed cams etc too.
Richy_Boy
I like the OEM sat nav.. and would never put a tomtom on my window when it gets me places perfectly well. I'd only buy an M3 or any other BMW with it... err, these units are identical to the dynavin ones aren't they, with maybe a different GUI sat on top of Windows? Probably explains a simular delivery time! Rich
m7alj
ive never had any issues with mine which i got in april my i phone works fine with contacts i just had an issue with iphone videos not working but soon learnt to use iphone through usb port not iphone cable as for updated dynavin they havnt stoped the screen glare they simply give you a clear sticker to stick on screen which is useless & buying from the states means you dont get digital tv

Probably explains a simular delivery time! Rich No, not the same, not even similar. The Hooligan is a Win CE environment that everything runs off. Dynavin is essentially two devices in one package. One is the Win CE environment that runs the Nav, has access to SD and USB and CAN (if desired) be used to run alternative Menu systems, MP3, Video etc. The other is a dedicated hardware solution dealing with Blue-tooth, CD/DVD, Radio, USB (again, different socket). Both can be used at the same time i.e. Nav on the screen, with voice prompts (that only mute the front speakers whilst leaving the rear speakers playing (nice feature)) and the other environment playing CD/Radio/whatever. Works well and is well thought out. Steering wheel controls are now in use for iPod/CD/Radio/USB. The steering wheel controls for iPod have an upgrade in the works to make it a more intuitive system. Jeff has already tested it and suggested more improvements, which are in the works. Firmware can be easily updated via USB/Email. Dynavin listen to opinions from resellers/customers and act upon them swiftly. This has already yielded several important improvements, there will be more. peakey
I have not heard of many Dynavins going back, none in fact, especially from the more recent versions. As for the screen i am pretty sure its not just a cover they have actually changed the screen for the new version and it does make a fairly significant difference if you read that review. I am buying from the US as i am not paying £750 from TTints for the same item ! Dont care about digital TV, who watches TV in a car ?

I assume you're referring to Jeff from E46Fanatics, I really can't recommend him highly enough. His on-line support *appears* to be round the clock, although I'm sure he must sleep at some stage. And he's just as helpful with users who have bought from elsewhere, which I think says a lot about the man. Ironically mine spent more time in UK customs/Parcel Farce, than it took to come from the States. The screen is a slightly silk/matt finish now, I've not seen the old one, but apparently it was very glossy. Regarding the DVB-T, don't worry, as of V5 none now come with it, it's an add on extra, but I agree with you, who watches TV whilst driving? m7alj
the actual screen is the same on all dynavins but the new version they give you a anti glare sticker which from what i read is no good but the glare issue dont concern me as i have a vert & with a smaller rear window means i get no glare unless the roof is down as for the digital tv i aggree who watches tv in a car but i have it & it works so im happy

Matt_330CI
What's the latest update on the Dynavin Vs it's alternative? Just seen this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-HD-Car-DVD-Player-...=item1c1679601a I have the BMW nav/tv set up but it doesnt work properly. Upgrading all that is gonna cost me well in excess of a grand.
Jorge-
That is the alternative cheap chinese s***. If it was me, I would just stick to the Dynavin, it seems like they are progressing slowly to upgrade the overall quality of it. But cheap chinese car audio, is cheap chinese car audio. Makes me laugh how when it comes to upgrading speaking BSW or Rainbow are the only manufactures some people consider, yet they'll go and stick this in the car... Least the Dynavin is fitted by other enthusiasts both sides of the pond and the support is there for it.
