Just A Little Something To Whet Your Appitites

Recommended Posts

noob question here but does the kit come with digital tv?? or is that another optional piece which is not included??

Bit unsure TBH, as dynavin do two types, one with and one without. But on this one when i spoke to the manufacturers they gave me the same option, but car vision has not said anything. So maybe he is getting them all with digital or all without. Im personally not too fussed, but will check as otherwise it wont work soon, or you will need an adaptor maybe.

hello paul now youve had it for a while could you do a little write up on all the good and bad points youve found with it so far, and hope you get the iphone compatibility sorted as this is quite a major selling point of the unit

will do mate, I finally have a day off tomorrow, so I'll get the unit back out and try and fix this illuminations problem and get onto car-vision about the digital ariel that it turns out I didn't get and talk to them about this iPod/phone thing. I've got an iPod nano coming in the post so I'll see if that will work with that either.

I'll also get a load of new pictures up as well (hopefully with some night shots and the buttons lit up)

it does all off the above except connect to the cd changer.it's an unknown manufacturer(to me anyway) but distributed by hualingan in china

can someone email me the website where it was purchased on since the links have been removed from the thread ;)

The original thread on this unit has all the links, easy to find if you look at the ICE forum page

Are you sure this doesn't talk to the CD changer. All adverts for it specifically mentioned it can.

check #3. in the list

3. CDC: compatible with original 6 CDC or 10 CDC

the link you posted is for the 40 pin connector, the unit i received and converted from 40 pin to 17 pin didn't have any plugs or adaptors to connect to the factory cd changer

I'm quite dissappointed with the length of the iPod cable as I was hoping to do the same, I think I would probably just about reach but you would be left with very little cable to actually use it. I think I'm going to have to find some kind of extension or a compeletely different cable to be able to use the iPod comfortably.

paul foley check out the link i know its in the states but may be of use to you

im still waiting on my unit but think this may be the answer were looking for, when you get your high gain antenna can you post up a pic of it so i know i got the right one in my lot aswell

There talk of being able to use TomTom software on the unit. I curently have an XL Live and really rely on the HD traffic service, which I find great. Does anyone know if I could run the full TomTom nav software, complete will all the Live services?, as well as IQ routes etc? (i.e. HD traffic, speed cameras etc)

How does this work exactly? Do I copy my navs contents on to a memory card and then just insert the card into the unit, or is there some re-organising/hacking of the software required????

If I could run the full tomtom software on this unit, I am DEFINITELY getting myself one of these!

How's the unti coming along Paul? Where's that review!

You manage to fix that button illumination issue?

Cheers, hope you're enjoying the unit!

Sorry about the wait, but I wanted to wait until I had some news to actually post:

I can't find anywhere to plug the CDC in either, though I did also think that the unit was compatible, but I'm gaining an iPod so I'm not too bothered personally

Also on the options screen there seems to be extra ones on that system, I can't adjust the functions of the steering ewheel buttons (much as I'd like to - the up/down buttons on the radio don't change presets) do I'm not sure what parallels there are between the systems, though they do look the same

High gain antenna is here, pic to follow

That link is just what I've been looking for, though I think I might have been a bit premature in saying it definately wouldn't fit, but the more cable the better!

I don't think you'd have any trouble, I've seen somewhere taht you could do it like this, then in the software ont he unit you choose the "GPS file path" basically you go onto the card and select the .exe file and it runs from there every time. Though I don't know what functionality you will get.

I got the buttons illuminated, but te backlight stays bright, so more work required, pics to follow.

So an update with pictures:

Some that I missed the first time through first:

Start up screen:

iPod screen:

The list of songs appears in the red section, with the song actually playing in the grey section.

High gain antenna:

Buttons illuminated with home screen:

DSCF0407.jpg

Buttons illuminated with GPS day mode, showing that the backlight is still far too bright for night use:

DSCF0409.jpg

Buttons illuminated with GPS in night mode (there is a seperate button in the GPS software) but the backlight still high:

DSCF0408.jpg

Finally the iPod cable, which seems to reach, just but the plastic under the tray doesn't allow the cable to come out just at the back of the sliding section without taking some cutting tools to it:

DSCF0410.jpg

Along with this I couldn't seem to route the cable under that at all, so how exactly have people done this because I have seen it?

HTH

Any questions??

Looking good mate!

FYI - I have an iPod in the slidy cubby hole thing for playing iPod videos on the Nav screen (OEM). I got it in there without any cutting, i just posted it through the gap at the back of the cubby hole. It looks like you have enough cable to run it to the back and post it through:

Thats exactly what I was looking for, what I am struggling with is getting the wire from the gear gaitor area into the cubby, there is a plastic tray under the sliding cubby that I can't seem to get the wire into :S Did you have to take the centre console completely apart to get it in?

Also, these are the things I've gone to car vison with, the iPod cable problem has been solved by chilly since though:

My iPhone does not work properly with the bluetooth link, only 5 contacts are being transferred across, and the mic in the unit doesn't pick up any sound, so I have to use the one on the iPhone.

When I connect my iPhone as an iPod it doesn't work at all

When I connect my iPod nano, all the songs appear and it plays fine, but when I click on a song it doesn't play that song.

The songs being displayed from my iPod nano don't appear in any recognisable order.

The iPod cable is not long enough to put it in the place I want it to be - do you have a longer one?

I have got the lights behind the buttons to come on when I turn the lights on, but the backlight on the screen stays high.

I can't get the time to take into account DST, therefore it is perminantly 1 hour slow.

The radio doesn't track the radio station it is set to, therefore as I drive about the signal strength and sound quality are effected.

John emailed back a few hours later (at 11:30pm which impressed me) asking for details about my iPhone (3Gs running tghe latest V4 software) saying he'd get onto his supplier ASAP and get back to me as soon as he hears.

Just a little FYI for anyone thinking of buying one.
