How many years no claims have you got? How old are you? I'm assuming about 23 if you've just finished uni?

I'm 21 with a 330Ci and pay just over £1000 a year. I think it was £1058 there or there abouts. As Jorge says though, insurance has gone up a lot this last year.

I would give Admiral a shot. They've given me the cheapest quote each year for the last 3 years now.

this is about wot I was paying too dude ;)

x2 for Admiral - very competitive prices :(

I'm 21 with a 330ci and pay £1300 FC with Admiral, 1 year NCB. Just to give an indicator as there are so many other varibles.

However doing a quote in prep for my renewal in Jan it's coming in at round £1100 this year, not exactly the 10% discount 1 year extra NCB aparently gives you.

I've got my gf on mine (she's 20) and it put my insurance down a huge whack. Something stupid like 40% I think. It's ridiculous!

What were the 3 points for? I remember a few people on here saying 3 points for speeding will hardly put your insurance up at all and that most people have points. Never got a quote with points though so not sure how true that is.

Well my car before my first bmw was a 1.6 fiesta ghia and going from that to a 318se 2 litre did feel like a drop in nippyness for sure. But the whole driving experience of the bmw more than makes up for it.

I find the 318 has enough power for my needs, its smooth enough and can keep up on the motorways so don't rule one out if ya looking to save on the insurance.

That being said, given the chance I'd go for the biggest bastard 6 pot I could afford now! :(

Oh and I know what ya mean about the rattly fiesta, it was the main reason I got rid of mine! ;)

Adding a 'partner' really helped me.

I tried adding my Mum to the policy, which was a great saving.... but it was bettered even more so (by about £200 more) when i replaced her with my girlfriend.

Strange, as she is a complete liability on the road. :D

For such low mileage vs the money you save on tax / fuel, just get a petrol, 325 or 330. You'll enjoy it more, you will hear a decent engine sound, and the money saved buying it will easily cover the additional insurance, fuel, tax. Tax is what, £100 a year more, insurance probably similar if looking at the 330cd, and even looking at amo's slightly over priced one for 8000, thats 2000 less for a car that will be much higher spec than an equilvent diesel.

What this man said!

330i petrol all the way. The diesel will be more expensive to buy, there is more to go wrong, will be just as expensive to insure and unloess you do high miles won't cost that much more on juice.

10k will buy you a spot on low milage 330i. In fact, i'd be tempeted to get a nice one for 7k and have a nice holiday with the change...

I had three points for speeding and it made naff all difference. What it did do was mean that some companies just wouldn't even quote me. But plenty did and I pay under £400 a year for my 330, although I am 35 now with over 10 years no claims...
