HP88
Managed to get my phone stuck in a vent below the drivers seat. Any tips on getting this out? Tried a magnet, hanger and a dyson but it still wouldn't budge. Tried a bit of uphill acceleration and it still won't budge. Next step would be remove the seat and vent, anyone have a DIY for this? Thanks
Wash
The seat is only held in place with 4 bolts, literally takes 5 minutes to whip the seat out, make sure to disconect the seat belt connector and any wiring for the seat too. Then, you should be able to get your phone out?
ian332isport
Tried a bit of uphill acceleration. Sounds a bit iffy...
Wash
Oh, and the bolts are pretty easy to see too. Put the seat in the all the way back position and you'll see a bolt on either side of the runners usually covered by a little plastic cap. Take off the caps and undo the bolts, then push the seat to the fully forward position and bolt on either side of the runners like you did for the front bolts. Disconnect the wiring and take out the seat, be careful cause they're a little heavy and it's easy to hit the runners against the car when you're pulling them out. Wash
Yes, you should disconnect it (after you've taken out all the bolts) Here's a good DIY: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=657042
birdy
this is common we have had two customers with e46 that have done this we took the seat out and sliced the duct to remove the phone but that is the lazy way
Knuckle
STOPP!!!!!! Exactly the same thing happened to me, my mate dropped his blackberry and we heard it ringing from the passenger footwell. Here is what i did. 1) Find empty car park 2) Reverse up to a fairly decent speed. 3) Anchor on brakes as hard as you can The result, phone comes flying out into the rear footwell Was quite epic, took me a while before resorting to that, we had the boot tool kit out and all sorts trying to fashion something to hook it out. stupid design! Wash
LOL. Sorry not very helpful but how the f**k did you manage that?! I think it'd be pretty easy... Loads of times when I've had my iPhone in my pocket, it slides out and falls onto the floor without me noticing, with a bit of "funny" driving, it could easily fall back in the rear footwell and then slide into that vent
pablo
you shouldnt need to disconnect the battery just dont turn IGN on while the seat is disconnected. I had my seat out the other day and didnt disconnect battery.

Chimp Choker
i reccommed whilst seat is out, covering vent with chicken wire or similar, and holding it onto the vent with a strong elastic band. give it a dust with satin black 1st if you want i can also make a tracey island out of a cornflake box, a bowl of fruit, and some flour water glue
HP88
Went to undo the seats but couldn't find a 14mm socket so i ended up taking it to my independent. Seat and carpet had to come out and he had to cut a little slit in the vent. He disconnected the battery before removing the seat but it still triggered the airbag light. Took him 20 minutes to take everything out and put back together again.

Bennai
Glad I'm not the only one. Exactly the same happened to me and I also had to cut a slot in the vent. It took me quite a while to figure otlut where it had gone because my phone was on silent and I kept thinking it couldn't get in that vent it must stuk in the seat mechanism. Complete pain hunting for the socket set at 10oclock in the evening in the freezing cold.
mit
This is a more common problem than you might think, happened to my friend a few years ago but his phone got well and truly wedged in. Solution is to take out the carpet and cut open the vent to get the phone, then seal it back up as best you can (gaffer tape). And don't use your phone while driving. The only way it could have got there is if you were moving and dropped your phone and then braked
