steuk
Hi just wondering if there is any way to stop the windows popping out when i shut the front doors. Whats happening is when i close either of the front doors the window glass doesn't sit properly and i usually end up having to open and close the door 2/3 times. REALLY annoying and wondering if there was something i could do to over come this problem with out forking out for new regs. Thanks people
Webby
If you open your doors can you shake/rattle the window without door moving? I think it will be the window guiders that need replacing, they go if people shut the door by pushing the window. Im sure there is a screw you can tighten to solve this (not sure where it is but have a search on here) if this doesnt work then the plastic window guiders will need to be replaced. I havent had much experience with convertable E46s but make sure your hood is fixed as it should be at the front also. Hope this helps!
steuk
Thanks mate. Yeah there both like jelly on a plate lol. Ill have to open up the doors and have a gander i think. The roof is shut properly. The glass sort of sits on the out side of the roof trim. Then when opened and closed a few times it seems to sit properly
Webby
Yeah thats what it is then, when you move the door in open and close position the window will flap. Im sure there is a guide on here to fix it, try the screw option first if that doesnt work then get the guiders from BMW, the ebay ones dont last as long. And if you notice people pushing the door closed by pushing the window slap them! Haha steuk

El Turko
Does the window drop 5mm every time you open the door? And raise back 5mm when you close it? It should do. The easiest first step is to reset the memory of the window controls. do one window at a time. Turn ignition on. Open window but keep hold the button for a further ten seconds after its fully opened. Close window but keep hold of the button for a further ten seconds after its fully closed. Do this twice and see if it rectifies it. If the window is genuinely loose then take a look inside the door. But the window should be dropping when you close it anyway.
steuk
yeah when i open the door they drop mate. And go back up when the doors are closed. But guess it wouldn't hurt to try the reset. Thanks for that tip to

Tymm
when you unlock your car open the window a bit more then when you close the door it wont hit anything and you can then adjust the window so it's sitting in the correct place before you close it, don´t know if that'll work but worth a shot
mit
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=927855 << use this. It's for a coupé but there's no difference as the doors and windows can be swapped between coupé and convertible anyway.
