Rich_D
Just a suggestion, as this is used quite a lot on other car forums, but I think it would be beneficial to have sub forums in the meets & events section for the different regions / areas of the UK. This would allow people to organise something and then allow other forum users to easily find local meets & events in their area, without sifting through the clutter of posts all bundled in the main area as it is currently. As I have already mentioned, this is fairly common place on other car forums and works well, some have area reps, others do not, but at least if you live in say the north of England, you can quickly & easily find relevant posts for your region. This may hopefully promote more local meets with other zoners, as again on other car forums I have used there were always things going on and I used to attend regular monthly meets, but in my 18 months on here, I have never been to a single zone meet! Obviously there will still be national events like UBMW in the main section, but I think we should try to get more small, local meets going on a regular basis, as this is more than just a forum, it's a car club. ***UPDATE*** Poll now added to gauge people's opinion for this, please vote and have your say. The proposal is to add a few sub-forums for large regional areas, such as Southern England, Wales, The Midlands, Northern England, Scotland, etc... rather than by each county, which would be too much. Gaz
Personally I don't feel like there's enough meets to warrant separate sections. As long as people put where the meet is in the title, that should make it as easy to find meets as having it separated by region.
Mengwalton
I think if there were separate sections there might be more meets.... Personally i think there should be ive never been a member anywhere that has as little meets as the zone, mabie if there were regional co-ordinators etc it would be better. Could always give it a try not like it costs owt Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2 Rich_D

mit
Personally it won't make any difference to me. I never pay attention to what section a post is in as it is. There aren't enough regional meets to split them by region either.
M3NXN
That's the point, by splitting them into sections it might encourage more local meets Rich_D
maxis740
I started a post ages a go titled 'Chesterfield' trying to find out if there was any local owners close to me. As it turns out theres quite afew and growing, so hopefully there should be a meet in the near future. Its taken awhile for people to respond but it does work. mit
Why would more sections encourage more meets? It would just mean people wouldn't know what section they were supposed to be posting their meets in and the mod gestapo would have a go at them for being in a slightly disputed geographical area. If you want to have a meet, just post it in the general meets section. If a seperate section is what you need to encourage yourself to organise a meet, that's really odd and I'm not sure I'd fancy attending one of them Gaz
M3NXN
You would post it in the section you live in surely? I'm sure most people know the area they live in.. Rich_D
Lee_h
It's a good idea, all other forums I am involved with have regional meets sections and it encourages meets and encourages members to ask about meets in those areas Rich_D and alexlawley
Gaz
I think if we had more meets it'd be a good idea to stop them getting 'lost' in the main meets section. But as we only have 10-20 a year, I really don't see it as that big of a problem :/ And for anyone that travels a distance to meets (I regularly go to London and Bournemouth ones) it just means more sub forums to scroll through to find them. Blatantly just ignored what people are saying then, you say it would be beneficial if there where more meets, it will encourage more meets and people asking about meeting in there area, not hard to understand. It's not a big deal giving it a try is it? Rich_D

mit
Yeah, it won't encourage more meets by merely having a regional area. What you need to encourage more meets is a person who wants to go to the trouble of organising one in their area. The only way you could 'encourage' that by having regional areas would be to nominate someone as some kind of grand poobah of their area because they organise the meets. You'd have to have some sort of election for that. That's a lot of effort just to have more meets. You could alternatively just post a thread in the meets and discussions section saying you're organising a meet and those who are inclined to drive greater distances will still see them. But if there were already so many meets it was hard to keep track of which meet was where, then yes it would make sense to split it up into regions. Can you explain exactly how you think it will encourage more meets by having a regional section? What is it about a regional section that would encourage you to organise a meet? If so, why can't you just do it in the main area? Gaz

mit
From experiences of plenty of other forums, that's how, but hey if a mod isn't willing to try new things that may be beneficial then who am I to complain What was it about your experiences in other forums that led you to the conclusion that the mere existence of the regional forums is what encouraged the greater number of meets? Does it not make sense to you that rather than this being the reason for so many meets, it was a reaction to having so many that they needed to be categorised? My experience of other forums is that they have a lot more meets because they have a lot more active members, and they have regional sections because they have a critical mass of active members in particular regions who prefer to have topics in those regions, because they make so many posts and there are so many of them for whom it's relevant. But then we all have different experiences Gaz

All other forums I am members of with regional sections get people, especially new members posting in there area asking about meets or wanting to organise one, its like pissing in the wind if you post for a meet in say for people in the north east in a countrywide meets section. Point is I don't see why mods are arguing against it, any decent forum would listen to members opinions and not rubbish there ideas Rich_D

Rich_D
Agreed, what have we got to lose? If anything it will make the meets & events section a bit tidier, but regional areas works well on lots of other forums, so it has to be worth trying...
