Rob_Sri's Black 330Ci Sport

Recommended Posts

Now i feel like a stalker.. because i remember reading your sri thread on the corsa forum, i loved that car, got trashed when you sold it though. Also remember reading your clio sport thread in January as i was thinking of downsizing to one but decided against it especially when i test drove a few dogs. Couldnt believe what happened! it was easily the best car on CS as well. Id be interested to hear you opinion on the difference between the clio and 330 when youre well enough to drive, as im still considering one as a project in the near future.

Also looking forward to see what you do with this car now, judging by the past! keep it up man

I've kept the same name through the forums for this reason :) looks like im following you around!! can you tell the colour scheme yet ;)

without even driving my 330ci myself yet I can tell you this.. 330ci is a much nicer place to be..! interior is worlds apart and its quiet smooth and doesnt rattle and I think you can make them look stunning pretty easily..

however... I would be VERY suprised if its as involved and raw as the clio.. the clio would make a brilliant track day/thrashthelivinghell out of it car.. I really want a PH1 to strip out to the bare bones stick a cage and one seat in it and beat it like it stole my wallet.. awesome fun..!

Your Clio was a credit to you such a shame, but glad your on the mend.

I'd avoid cheap coilovers if you want to get anywhere toot sweet, the majority of owners of them seem to post saying they'd get better quality ones next time, except Jay but he drives like your Grandma and likes his car lower than his morals!

Hahahahaaa love this.. stumbled across you + Jays conversation on budget coils whilst doing a little search.. some interesting points but definitely a massive can o' worms which im still trying to draw a conclusion from! as for liking cars low.. im not looking to track this competitively but I do live extremely close to curborough Sprint Course.. and when membership for the year is £22 it would be rude not to do the occasional lap throughout the year!

so whilst we're talking about grandmas dont be suprised if this ends up lower than grannies nipples!

god that clio looked clean, looks like the roll cage helped in the crash

yeah traffic officers and fire crews reckon the modifications to the car is the reason why me and the mrs are still alive...!

one question I have as well which seems to be up for debate is the correct oil to use and to use OEM filters or not.. I am going to be servicing this to death and looking after it in my usual OCD fashion.. so I would like to know the kind of official rule for this?

I'm on about engine/diff/box etc btw :)

I definitely noticed they felt more involved on some test drives, I just couldnt bring myself to swap the 330 for one lol. so after a bit of saving I might be able to get a side project.

can you tell the colour scheme yet ;)

this leads to my next question! haha... are you ever gonna have a different colour car? ;)

Indeed, you can't possibly compare the two cars. Both totally different ;)

Hi Rob, Another CS'er here!

Looking forward to see how you get on with your 330 as well.

FYI, I had an RS 182 Trophy prior to buying the 330Ci. They are so so different, I bought mine due to a slipped/crushed L5/S1 disc in my back. I needed a comfy car, and the Clio was not it. The Clio was awesome, so so chuckable, tonnes of grip, loads of attention and being 1 of 500 made in the UK it was rare! I've had clios for 5 years, so can relate to them very well. The BMW is just effortless, so simple to drive, power is always there at low RPM. Its certainly not as exciting at the high revs, and it offers a different type of run. With the 330 being my first RWD car, thats offering up the fun at the moment.

that airfilter on the clio must of got loads of air stuffed down behind the headlight...

It's actually the best place for it. The two standard CAF's go down there, along with the acoustic valve.

Just because its in a tight space doesn't mean it isn't getting cold air. Maybe do your research.

Very true, I guess it goes down to personal preference and maybe costs. But definitely in an ideal world I would have both lol.

Would also be interesting to see how an air intake like Rob's old Clio would sound on the straight 6? Rob.. Any plans for this? It was just universal parts right?

Nooo I can see why you wouldnt want to swap a 330 for a clio!! but you're dead right... epic side project/trackday car

I did once...!

More CS members! I think CS should have a 330 owners club..

Sorry to hear about your back! sounds painful! trophy looked awesome! wow..! I bet the low down torque is completely different.. the standard RS clio is gutless low down! ive yet to drive my 330 so I really cant wait to get in and il report back with what I make of it.. dont think it will be as fast but im pretty sure its going to be a hell of alot nicer!

this is my first RWD car too.. so will be interesting to see the difference.. I have friends with an s15 and an rx7 who seem to think its the way forward...

I think from everyone I have ever spoke to who has owned a clio sport it always seems to be that they really want another one! I think a ph1 172 or similar would be a perfect track toy

Like(d) the clio, were the parts painted liquid yellow or just a general yellow?

cheers :) just yellow.. everything was powdercoated so couldnt get it in LY unfortunately

yep ive been thinking about this already.. need the car first though!!

but I will look to make something similar when I can find the best kind of location for it.. Need to figure out if there is any standard air feeds.. coolest part of the bay or a way I can make my own CAF...need to learn a bit more about the car first and maybe to a few tests with a temp sensor

with the clio I also built these for it for track days.. 531547_329642337126884_583961404_n.jpg

which inside had some plumbing like this..

548051_325729410851510_1836946854_n.jpg

not that il be going that far with this as it wont be seeing the track like the clio

Welcome :)

Nice Clio and nice choice with the BMW - looks a clean example although we're you not tempted by a facelift instead?

Collar bone looks nasty - did mine a few years back and it was the worst injury I've ever had, was a constant nightmare and my shoulder still isn't as strong because of it....

On the coils front my experiences are buy cheap buy twice - although before I tried the more expensive coils I didn't realise quite how bad the cheap ones were, I just kinda put up with the bounce etc...

Wait till you've tried them on an E46 then come back & give your findings

the amount of people who've had x/y/z cars with crap coilovers fitted due to the cars suspension bushes being unable to cope with the lack of comfort from the cheap coilovers who come on here then fit cheap coilovers to their e46 its a different kettle of fish.

Jay I have them on mine, and they were ok at first but starting to get on my nerves.... I've had expensive coilovers before and there is seriously no comparison, but quality..... I will most certainly replace these in the future.

I know you stand by them religiously but I'm sure if you had the option you would go upmarket.

I know what your saying mate, but say having budget coils on a clio for example, they'd be a lot worse than if they were on an e46 no?

Well in a way yes as the Clio is light and nibble itsvnot as sure footed on cheapies as a heavy planted e46 but still......if affordable splash the extra cash and enjoy the car even more. IMO theb330 is no slouch so handling is vital for a performance vehicle like this..... The cheapies are just not up for the task.

yeah, its all horses for courses, i never push my car to anywhere near its limits, if i was bothered bowt handling or took it on the track for SURE i'd buy some HSD's or something :)/>

True, may I ask what coilovers you were using when the tree jumped out on your silver grey?

you say that although my clio had FK Silverlines on.. which were about £450 so not exactly cheap but from what i've read the only difference between the silverlines and the streets are the silverlines are made of stainless steel.. and the clio did take some pretty hard driving on track and handled brilliantly with RARB and braces.. so im open to the suggestion that cheap doesn't always necessarily mean bad..

Fair enough I've not had coils on my e46. Kw's for mini are from around £650 but the e46 equivalents are from around £1000. If you're happy with yours that's great but for me my previous statement is very true and despite not having tried e46 coils I don't see why it should be any different for the e46.... (Note that isn't actually a question) but may be worse as there is more weight to control and damp properly...

My car was fully bushed and had strut bars too so (if I've got what you were saying properly) you point doesn't hold true in my case.

My point was you get what you pay for.

A bit different to 200-250 quid coilovers.... Plus with the modifications the the roll bars and the extra stiffness supplied by your cage on a mid range set of coilovers that you bought for the Clio, it should handle pretty well..... I had Gaz which although not the gold class were very good. In comparison to a Clio running raceland go faster cheap ass coilovers I can say the difference was substantial and I felt fearful of my life at higher speeds....

I'm speaking from experience with the e46 if you want to ruin the car you have buy the cheap ones, if you want enjoy your car and love it everytime you drive it.... Go decent. Soon as I finish maintenance work and a few cosmetics I will be buying quality for it next even though she is a slow derv. Suspension, tyres, brakes most important part of a car.
