Angel Eye - Remote on/off and DRLs

Recommended Posts

So i bought some CCFL Angel Eyes and installed them as DRLs. I didn't want to tap into the sidelights so i followed this guide made by AnalBeard http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/27315-wiring-your-angel-eyes-as-drls/

Then i wanted to have them come on remotely, when i unlock the car. Easiest way to do this is to tap into the interior lights. I tried this without diodes but when the ignition was on it fed back into the interior lights so they where on the whole time. Bare in mind this is for CCFL angel eyes but I'm sure it would work similar to LEDs.

Now this is how i did it, basically you want to follow this diagram, but the way you connect it together may be different but this diagram is basically what need to happen.

So heres how to do it/i did it:

You Need:

Angel Eyes

2 x Diodes, I got these - http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/1n5349-brl-12-v-420ma-zener-diode-ay71n

Wire Taps/Connectors

Some Spare Wire

First things first is to install the Angel Eyes into your headlights and run the cables into the ECU box . You need to tap into an earth somewhere, I used a cable in the ECU box.

Next tap into the interior lights, easiest place is the passenger footwell as there is access to the ECU box from behind the glovebox. Remove the plastic under the glovebox where the footwell light is and look up towards the engine bay, there is a small half moon shaped hole. tap into the positive feed of the light and feed the wire through this hole and into the ECU box.

Next wire in a diode to the wire from the footwell light, and create a wire with a diode in one to connect to the Angel Eyes and tap into the live from the ECU ( Follow above diagram )

Now i the connected all the cables together in a single wire tap, this was the easiest way for me, you may do it differently.

I hope that this is not too confusing, if you need help feel free to PM me or whatever. if you have ideas on how to make it simple-er i am all ears.

Hopefully this helps some of you - heres a video of it working.
