bmw e46 door mirror module

Recommended Posts

hey guys. can anyone help pls pls. my bmw e46 convertible has the dipping mirror feature feature as to avoid curbing the passenger side. recently this feature has been acting strange. the mirrors were not going back to the original position. so I concluded it must be the mirror memory module part num 6913364. the seller off ebay and another seller both stated that this module is located within the door. having taken both door cards off and looking I can't find the module. can anybody pls help.

thanks in advance.

I too have a convertible, 2005 facelift version, with a mirror problem which, unusually, is confined to the passenger door. It's the usual story of spontaneous movements and is of recent origin. However, the driver seat position has been spontaneously adjusting for a couple of years, happily only when the car is parked and after removal of the ignition key. The seat always returns to my preferred position when I press the memory switch for that. Again, like earlier cases of the mirror problem, the door-arm switch is without effect on mirror position. My door mirrors are not of the powered-folding variety. The earlier forum discussion on this problem, which I read today before joining this one, never resulted in a listed solution, though disconnecting the battery for 30 mins, replacing the battery, the use of WD40 spray and testing or replacing of a memory module were suggestions. Replacing the door-arm switch was never reported as being successful.

If anyone has in the meanwhile come up with a definitive answer to this odd problem, could they please contribute to this discussion. The only thing which has changed that I can think of is that this very wet Autumn/Winter is the first year of my ownership in which the car has frequently been parked overnight in the open.

I had a e92 in work recently with this same problem, it was the connections on the back of the motor inside the mirror had got wet and needed a clean. Some contact and the problem was gone

My thanks to Edges for his speedy, solution-offering reply. In the meanwhile I've learnt that motorised seat positions and mirror settings are lodged in the same memory module. Because of an injured knee I've recently been driving with the seat back as far as it will travel. Having returned the driving seat to my usual position using the appropriate memory button, the passenger side door mirror returned to its proper position and, so far, has not moved since! Sounds like a result of sorts, but, unfortunately, neither mirror responding to the door-arm switch remains as before. I guess the next step is a look at the fusebox.

fuses checked. had to reluctantly give it to the stealers. having suspected a faulty mirror motor on the left had side this hasn't fixed the problem. diagnosis hasn't shown a fault. bmw seem baffled themselves.
