Jonny Posted April 30, 2009 Report Share Posted April 30, 2009 Install a multi function steering wheel and simply connect one wire from the steering wheel controls to the ECU. Mines 12/99 and it says for cars 6/00 onwards, thats whats made me unsure about it Yeah sorry I meant the OBC stalk, Mines a 08/2000 with fly by wire and a round airbag and it was a straight forward job and didn't need to be activated, it was plug and play with the loom from BMW. If yours has a throttle cable I'm sure it can be done but you may need a actuator etc. I retro fitted cruise to my old E30 vert, if you can get the parts together it's not a difficult job to do. It wont be plug and play I'm afraid. You'll need to buy the BMW retrofit wiring loom from the stealers costs anywhere from £15-30 and Part Number is B61.12.0.016.012. Ive always wondered if this was possible. Where do you get this 'wire' from Jonny? The wire in question is one connected to the retrofit wiring loom i just mentioned above for allowing non multi function cars to have multi function steering wheels. Its simply routed through to the ECU while your installing the wiring loom around the steering wheel area. I think you might need the trip computer indicator stalk as well, and activation from specialist or dealer? No activation required for any of it. Just the wiring loom installed, a multi function steering wheel and away you go. If you PM me i can send you some guides and the PDF file from BMW. Can't be done because your car like mine has not got the fly by wire throttle. Wrong matey im afraid, did this last year for my 99 323. Not sure of the technicality behind the cruise control but it will 100% work as although the intial throttle is cable driven, its then fed to an electronic actuater thats controlled by the ECU. I started off without multi-function, no cruise. Fitted the wiring loom, bought a MFSW, fitted altogether. MF controls and cruise working fine ever since! There is some soldering involved at some point though which i got my dad to do (he's an ex-electrician) so not sure how confident you are doing that? Haha think you'll be alright then mate. Yeah no worries, let me know! What needed to be soldered? Just a few of the connections running to the LCM needed to provide lighting to the MFSW.
