Anyone use Raceland coilovers?

Recommended Posts

I've seen these on ebay for £200 and though they seem a bit too cheap to be any good.

They had a stand at the autosport show today so I went have a look at them, they seem really good quality.

Just wondered if anyone has any feedback about them as they are only height adjustable.

Simon, where have you seen the Eibach coilovers for that price?

I was going to go for the raceland ones but opted for lowering springs. I'd rather hold out for the top stuff such as Eibach. Yes the price of these is rather cheap compared to other coily systems, But I believe you get what you pay for after consideration. I offered the dealer £140 for them and he counter offered £170.. :) So theres the place to start if you want to get em! :D

Sorry my mistake the eibachs were £750.

Here is a little list i have so far;

eibach Pro Street Kit : £750

Spax RSX Kit : £655

Gaz Kit : £580 (Not sure on year these are for though)

Tein Basic Kir : £610

Koni Kit : £397.00

Racelands : £170ish

As others have said you get what you pay for but the racelands work out around the same if not cheaper than OEM parts and if they are TUV approved then they have been tested to pretty high standards, by zee germans. Am tempted to either give these a try or perhaps pay a little extra for the Koni or Tein setup. Will have to do a little research first, although at £170 i may just take a gamble.

Only thing is i dont want a drop of any kind, im struggling with space under the arches as is, although this could be down to the bust suspension! I would however like adjustables so i can lower it for trackdays when im on smaller wheels.

Raceland coilovers have 2 years unlimited waranty. The shocks are supposed to be the same as Jamex ones (sh*te) :)

Im desparate to change my suspension. I am really limited on cash due to gearbox repair. I've considered ebay racelands. Can't find anyone on any forum who's admitted fittin them on a bm. A few have tried them on VW's and found them harsh. I think BM suspension is superb (even standard) and a set of eibachs make such a difference to standard shocks. Coilovers are a little extreme I guess if not trackin your car but the right set (£500 and over) I've heard makes a huge difference. Best setup in many an opinion for E46 is Koni FSD shocks\eibach springs. If you go down coilovers route eibach pro-street (£550) a set.

Unfortunately you do get what you pay for in moddin. I did the sums and fitted Racelands are £370ish....Koni FSD's are £650 ish...Coilover £750 ish - you pay your money, you take the chance I guess......

found these even cheaper on the german ebay they are on for £160 or best offer with £17 for postage so in total costing you £177 delivered....however as they are on best offer i have seen them accept about £145 which means you can get them for about £160ish....which is cheap especially with 2 yr warranty!!!

they got another brand on too similar price and best offer... here they are

Just bought a set of these raceland coilovers. I offered £150 and it was accepted striaght away, so £165 posted. Will let you know what the ride and quality of the part is like. Like i said i saw a set of these at the autosport show this year and they looked ok.

Anyone considering coilovers should have a look at FK's. I've got them on my saloon and they are great so far. Had them for approx 7 months and 7500 miles. They are slightly stiffer than standard but not at all crashy. Good adjustment in height and the ones I've got can be adjusted for damping too.

I bought mine from BMW M Style but they can be had cheaper from places like here:

I think I posted somewhere before on coilovers, but I'd recommend Tein SuperStreets (not basics). By far the most useful thing about coilovers is having the ability to adjust the stiffness and front camber, the latter the cheap(er) kits do not allow you to do.

Height adjustment is a complete farse.. 99% of people with coilovers set and forget.

As said above, you DO get what you pay for... and if you love driving your car, putting on a set of budget coilovers is one sure way to ruin it if you drive it regularly.

They arrived today. There was no rear height adjuster which goes on the rear springs, after a quick email they are now sending them out to me.

So for now I have just fitted the fronts. Because the shock is a lot shorter than the original shock the anti-roll bar link won’t fit. I just need to measure the difference and take that off the antiroll bar links. Just need to cut a chuck out and thread both parts then using a threaded sleeve to attach them together again.

Still only got the fronts fitted as the rear adjuster has not arrived.

They are quite stiff, and i still dont have the anti roll bar attached. But i do have low profile tyres and polybushes.

Well they are nice and stiff. I have worked out the spring rate of the fronts to be around 250, which doesn't seem that stiff so maybe its the shock.

I still haven't got the rears on, I got the adjusters now though.

With just the fronts on and no anti roll bar it hops round corners and feels good.
