Gaz
I was driving home last night and the yellow engine light came on (not EML). I've looked in the handbook and it says "Exhaust emissions issue may ahve deteriorated". I've got it booked in for a diagnostics at 11am (£69 ), but was just wondering if people had any ideas so I don't get bend over backwards (more so than I already am) at the garage. Jay.
mine did it on my last 330 - there was no difference in running at all, but it was the cat that was knackered, was £600 to replace
suhail97
It could literally be anything - do the petrol cars have EGR valves? My brother in laws old corsa (1.2 petrol) had one and he had to have it cleaned every 6 months or the EML light would come up
simonlpearce
Could also just be a duff sensor...
Gaz
mine did it on my last 330 - there was no difference in running at all, but it was the cat that was knackered, was £600 to replace That would be my front end respray and my wheel refurb down the drain Would mean aftermarket exhaust time though I guess It could literally be anything - do the petrol cars have EGR valves? My brother in laws old corsa (1.2 petrol) had one and he had to have it cleaned every 6 months or the EML light would come up Yes that's what I thought Wasn't sure if there were any known issues though. I'm not sure if the petrols have EGR but I didn't think so. It's this symbol btw, not the EML. It's the one to the left of the EML: http://www.maxbimmer...=1&d=1283303518 Could also just be a duff sensor... That's what I'm hoping for. Knowing my luck it won't be that simple though Edited July 18, 2011 by Gaz
DonB
Check your intake boot for splits. Mine needs to be replaced as it's split, and the engine light came on and went off a couple of times. Not sure if it could be a cause, but worth checking?
Gaz
Will give it a check over before taking it down, thanks Don
PeterH
Getting Jealous of Tricksters EML's Gaz? I'd put my money on a sensor or a split in a boot somewhere...
GAZ 2617
I had the same light, and found a split in the intake boot like don said. I replaced it last weekend, and no light now. £19 from the dealer for the boot.

Cwality83
£69 for a diagnostic? Is that at BMW? Most garage owners i know would do that for free. Harsh! Well i hope it doesn't turn out to be anything expensive mate, i know how frustrating that can be.

Well i hope it doesn't turn out to be anything expensive mate, i know how frustrating that can be. Not BMW but a specialist. A lot I know, but the other garage I use can't get it in until Wednesday and as I use my car daily so wanted it sorted ASAP. I was scared using it with the warning light there. Depending on the damage depends whether I'll get the specialist to do the work or take it elsewhere/do it myself.
Rob-
You could have bought your own code reader for that and had money left over.
Gaz
You could have bought your own code reader for that and had money left over. True, and believe me I'll be ordering one after that, but I wouldn't have been able to get it by today/tomorrow, and I need to use my car in the mean time. Rob-
True enough, if you have am android phone then the torque app and a Bluetooth obd2 adapter might worth a shot. Around £20 for the adapter and £3 for the app. My adapter is en route and my gfs phone is being liberated when she's not looking.
