Harmon Kardon Speaker Problem

Recommended Posts

If i have the radio on, the speakers are fine, i can have it as low or as loud as my ears can take it, but whenever i play a cd from the changer, the speakers crackle like they are blown, unless i crank it to an obsurdly loud volume, and it sort of overtakes the crackling.

The cd's are new, i haven't run a cleaner through it because it plays the cd's well, never skips, and when i crank it, it overpowers the crackle.

Anyone ever encountered this?

I don't think it's dirty, it sounds fine when you cut the kardon gear off with the switch.

I was sure i needed new front speakers until i switched to radio and found out they were bang on.

i had this problem with my HK system, turned out it was the cd changer it self, i thought it was the HK amp and bought one only to find it still happened, removed the tape deck and installed a bmw business cd player, worked fine but still same problem with cd changer, so just took the changer out as im not a big fan of them anyway

Hey thanks for the heads up Rizzo.

What a bastard that is!

I had an MP3 cd player in my last car, loved it, but i wanna keep the satnav in my coupe, and a one cd slot that can't play mp3's sounds like hell, i'd need two glove boxes to keep my cd's in!

Is the business cd player in the same unit as the widescreen satnav?

I have the MK3 at the minute, i've had the car since boxing day so i haven't had anytime to change anything apart from oil, but a widescreen is on my to do list!

i dont have the sat nav mate, i had originally tape deck and cd changer, like yours sound perfect on radio/tape but sound when playing from cd changer was either crackling or cutting out on the front,

so bought the cd player and in process of using the cd changer cables to run a dice duo ipod kit to the armrest which will let me play ipod and have steering wheel controls and also control the ipod from the head unit,

only option if you wanna keep the sat nav is get a replacement cd changer

try for sale section if not a my local bmw indy called quarry motors in sheffield has a breakers yard also and theyll have plenty of cd changers which they deliver and give warranty on

as far as i kno mate they all tried and tested, and they'll give you 3months warranty, thats where i got my cd player from, highly recommend them, been getting parts and car maintenance for the last 3years

only other thing id say before you buy one is just check for any dodgy wires behind the cd changer, i.e split or bare wires

Yeah I read of boxes not being supplied with all the cables. Faulty. Bad customer service, but that may have been the sellers, not the manufacturers.

Check them both out. Both sound like they offer the same functionality. You now have 2 recommendations.

nope

If you have OEM nav get an Intravee II best for iPods :)

As someone looking in to getting an intravee/dice duo, why would you not recommend the dice duo?

Admittedly they have had some time to fix bugs and such since I looked into it, but it was buggy as hell when I had one and the solution was to remove the battery before making any changes to the setup, which was a right pain (and then there was the noise interference problem).

These days though the Intravee only really gives you an advantage if you have navigation or want to keep use of a CD changer for some unfathomable reason.

I havent got anything against the Dice duo but from my research and many hours spent reading/looking at other installs the Intravee II seemed the best one to me hence I will recommend it

Havent tried the Dice duo and it could be as good for all I know.

Oh the other thing with the Intravee is it's much faster at searching your playlists.

But the downside is (depending on the Alpine ipod adapter you have) the list can only have 500 songs in it and doesn't scroll further...

Any more info on the noise interference issue? I just had a Google but couldn't find anything about it.

How much did you pay for your Intravee Ricky?

I believe the noise interference issue was to do with the DSP. The Dice Duo requires another cable to solve this issue, but the DSP was never an option on the e46, only on the 5 series and X5.

£250!!! And thats not even fitted! The Dice Duo is £99 on Amazon and comes with all the cables. Does not suffer from the playlist issue. You can also list all artists, albums and songs. Can cycle through them all on the screen. I dont have the Nav, just the business Cd player and it has cd text so all the text displays on the screen.

Wow, that's a lot of money! I think I'm happy burning CD's for the time being

Will take a look at the dice duo though as it's only £99, and would be handy being able to keep use of the cd changer in case the new owner doesn't have an iPod when I come to sell it.

It can be removed easily and is not permenant so no one will know its been there

Fitting is dead simple so you dont need to pay anyone to do it lol

Yes but then I'd be stuck with a Intravee kit for a car I no longer own and doubt I'd actually end up selling it on again as by the it'll be worth pitance by then.

Time to research dice duo, or find a discount code for CD-R's
