sharma
Hi guys, Planning on fitting my new wheels shortly. I have a E46 Clubsport Coupe and have a set of 19 inch wheels which all have an offset of et 40. I was planning on going for 235 35 19 for the front tyres and 265 30 19 for the rear tyres. Wondering if anybody else has this setup and if its caused any issues with regards to rubbing? Don't really want to start rolling the arches. Cheers. Daz 330 Cs
You don't need a 265, that's wider than an M3 has with 100 more ponies. 245 - Win
chris
If your going low then it will rub, but on std suspension it wont. But as Daz says, 245's are more than adequate.
Jay.
Just had them binned off the rear of mine, they didn't rub 265 30's even with it slammed as much as mine - but they were over tyred for a 8.5j rim so had 235 40's fitted which have too much of a sidewall so gonna go back & get 235 35's fitted in a bit
sharma
Won't 245's be stretched? I currently have 255 on an 18 x 9.5 and it looks like there is a little stretch so 245's would have a fair bit of stretch I assume? I do like the look of a stretched tyre but am worried its more dangerous/less comfortable? Thanks guys
sharma
Oh and Jay 265's on what offset wheel??
Gaz
I don't get why he wouldn't go for a 265 if it will fit though? Yes, on standard suspension you'll be fine with a 265. I'd not want to go any lower than standard on that size rear though.
Jay.
38 mate, so nearly same as yours but ever so slightly closer to the arch, but no rubbing
simonlpearce
245's is where i would put my money even with those offsets. Its possible that a fully loaded car could get some rubbing with 265.
chris
Oh obviously rim width effects this, as mine is 9.5"
Gaz
I do like the look of a stretched tyre but am worried its more dangerous/less comfortable? Thanks guys 245 definitely wont be dangerous. It will make the ride slightly firmer though. If you like the stretched look, then 245 all the way. I aint touching on the safety issue but visually, if it's not your taste, it'll look pants, if it is, you'll love it. I'm the former. I went to look at some 19x9.5s with 245's on and I just couldnt live with it. It looks broken to me. Example of what it looks like. Reminds me a bit of a war head sticking out of a foreskin. http://img313.imageshack.us/img313/2417/p73000241ts.jpg
sharma
Hmm ok well im thinking of just going inbetween the two and going for 255. Another question would be regarding the arch gap, I know the only real way is to lower the car and it will prob look a little high on 19's but im happy with the msport suspension and dont really want to sacrafise height. But from what I understand '265 30 19' is a bit bigger overall than '255 30 19' or '245 30 19'. So which is better in terms of there being less of a gap and a bit more of a lower look? And lastly I assume et 40 offset is also quite safe seeing as the standard msport wheels have a et 50 offset on the rear?
Matt_330CI
The profile is a percentage of the width. So a 265/30/19 will have a prifile 30% of the width of the tyre. I think this is between the absolute edges and not just the visable tyre wall. So 79.5mm If you got a 245/30/19 the profile would be 73.5mm so the vehicle would sit lower to the ground. Just to put it in perspective. This calculates your rolling radius for wheel changes. this is the distance around the tyre. If you imput 255/35/18 Vs 265/30/19 you'll note that increases the circumference by 17mm only. So the actual over all size is very similar to OEM spec. http://www.club80-90syncro.co.uk/Syncro_website/TechnicalPages/TRC%20calculator.htm
Daz 330 Cs
Here's my 245 on a 9.5J. It's barely a stretch
simonlpearce
I expect a 245 on a 9.5 is probably still with in tyre manufacturer specification, so wouldn't get hung up on it being dangerous.
Matt_330CI
It looks like an eye popping out. I love your car, your rims are lovely and your tyres look super black and slick. But that stretch looks fricking awful IMO.
Daz 330 Cs
It's not that bad in the flesh Matt, I'm quite fussy too and it looks ok when you stand back from the car

chris
Mine never rubbed on std springs, and the verts are a fair bit lower than coupes? Then again never have anyone in the back
