Jamie 325ci Sport Coupe
Hi all sorry if this isnt the correct place to post am a newbie Im after an OEM E46 screen for my 325ci sport just wondering if anybody could help with some questions i have? Firstly ive been scouting around the net and have seen a few adverts that say "SAT NAV SCREEN" and also some that say "TV/SAT NAV SCREEN" just wondering if one only did the sat nav or they did both but havnt described the item very well? Im after a screen that could do both tv and sat nav but understand you have to have a sat nav/tv module in the boot, is this a single module or do i have to have 2 modules? Obviously with the digital switchover in 2012 id rather get a digital tv module if possible but cant seem to find one does anybody know if these are available and if so where? If anybody knows a place where i could get an OEM screen and module/s cheap it would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Jamie
mit
You need the screen which doesn't matter whether described as sat nav or tv + sat nav, the tuner in the boot (and the navigation module etc) and if you want TV, a TV tuner. It's a pricey retrofit. Cheaper to go aftermarket and you get better quality. Some forum searching will help you find out more about this
Jamie 325ci Sport Coupe
I understand its going to be pricey but would like to keep it looking OEM spec as i can i was looking at the DYNAVIN head units but not sure what to make of these any help on them would be grateful too Thanks Jamie
K1MBR
Im guessing you dont have any of the bits for the system. If so there is BMW OEM sat nav retrofit kit for a E46 but it costs about £1500 all in, a bit expensive unless you really want it. Anyways if your interested have a look at this its the BMW guide to installing the lot including parts etc. clicky
Jamie 325ci Sport Coupe
You would be correct in saying i dont have anything for the screen i currently have the "business" standard headunit. Ive seen the thread on here about the DVN E46 headunit but not sure id have to buy anything to get this to work (wiring etc) Ive emailed DYNAVIN about 2 weeks ago but havnt heard anything back so not a good start lol just wondering if anybody could shed more light on this headunit such as if it comes with everything i need to use tv and sat nav from the box or wether id have to buy a module? swilton325is
Hi Mate, I've done one of these installations, its not hard at all, I got everything out of an M3 apart from the wire loom which i got direct from BMW. Since installing it i have sold it on as wasn't that impressed with the whole unit, satnav was slow, and the TV was shocking, even with original ariel in the rear bumper (and dont forget its analogue not digital). I made a little number on selling it on so wasn't that much bothered. i miss the look of the OEM install as it looks very nice, if i could get another one (cheap) i would do it again, otherwise i would go pioneer or something like that, also my feeling double din is better on this but afraid of cutting the air-box at the back of the stereo. Drop me a PM if you want the details on the installation that i did..
mit
Have you read the entire dynavin thread, including how buggy it is? Also your stereo is there to listen to, not look at
Jamie 325ci Sport Coupe
Hi all Thanks for all the help ive spoken to a number of people and there all saying the same thing about it being expensive also the sat nav being slow and tv being poor! I think im going to have to settle for an aftermarket headunit but not sure which one. This is where im going to ask you all for your opinions on what to go for but it has to have the following 1- Tv digital preferbly (even if i need a module) 2- Sat nav (even if i need a module) 3- Be able to play mp3 4- Iphone compatible 5- Touch screen (if possible) Hope to hear from you all soon Regards Jamie
mit
Get an Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer. They all make units that have all these features built in. Personally I have a double-din Kenwood. It's not perfect but it's a damn sight better than the OEM solution
Jamie 325ci Sport Coupe
Ok thank you ive been looking at a few double din units but just wondering how easy they are to install Is it a case of unplugging the heater controls and moving them down to the sunglasses flap, or is it a little bit more than that? Do i have to buy anything to fit the heater controls in that gap? Thanks Jamie
Daz 330 Cs
There's a Piece of trim you get from the Dealer's to re-locate the Climate controls . Its about £35 IIRC . Have a look a dicky's or Marty's DIY on this . They've both fitted a Pioneer Double DIN .
scrimja
Like Daz said, have a look at the DIY's on here. It involves a fair bit of modification...including slicing up your footwell heater vents. I'd love a double din but don't want to chop my car up lol. Sam_Burns
DYNAVIN head units Steer clear of dog s***.
mit
I'd love a double din but don't want to chop my car up lol. Why not? All you lose is vent control in the passenger footwell. Just leave it open. I haven't had anyone complain about it in 2 years, and my car is a 'vert so passengers are more sensitive to temperature. I've not had a problem when sat in the passenger seat either.
