stringy93
I just bought an '02 325Ci with one working and one non-working but otherwise brand new key. The prior owner never got the second key to work. I just applied the procedure from the orig. post and voilà, they both work perfectly now. Thanks! Glad it worked for you mate, and welcome to the forum!
olegv24
either the battery is naffed or there is a problem with the fob itself..............as i said before they can be charged via an electric tooth brush charging stand. Hi, I am new to this forum and trying to find solution. I have 2 keys with remotes. Both remotes doesnt work, and in addition of the button (central) in one of remotes slightly damaged. So, I decided to buy a new remote. I bought a new remote on eBay. I cut and took elecronic piece from this new remote from eBay and combined it with the key from original one. However it doesn't work. I tried to re-program, no success. In addition when I am trying to reprogram and than turn-in car with the "combined key/remote" it doesnt work. However this is was fixed, by first using second remote (untouched so far ), and than this "combined" is working again, however not a remote part. Any ideas, What is wrong? I applied 2 methods for re-programming desribed here. Any suggestions? alternative methods? Could it be the battery in purchased key? in spite looking almost brand new? Any help will be highly appreciated. My car is 2003, 318i Tnx Please help. My email olegv24@yahoo.com
ljc8165
Hi all A question for you all I only have 1 key and so need another. I have noticed that ebay sell the keys which just need cutting (assuming a normal key cutter can do it) my question is will these keys from ebay work if I folllow the programming process???? Would be good if they do as BMW want £97 for a new one!!!!

My email olegv24@yahoo.com TBH m8 sounds like the fobs youyou have got could be naffed??? did you try charging the keys via ignition or electric toothbrush charger??? If you did then I'd recomend just biting the bullet and buying a brand new coded key/s from the dealer
e46_320i
Hi guys, I tried the above method & no success. My spare key can only lock & unlock the doors but cannot start the car, why is this? & how can I fix it? Cheers
MattBMW
it might not be the original key.....there is a transponder in each key that is designed to work with that car only. if insides were switched over from another key this would explain it. e46_320i
Hi It's my spare key, if I put my main key in the ignition first & quickly put my spare key in, car will start. But if I take it out & try it without putting my main key in first it won't start. Weird!! So there's no way I make it a fully useable spare key then?? But if I take it out & try it without putting my main key in first it won't start. Weird!! So there's no way I make it a fully useable spare key then?? So the electronics in the spare key unlocks the doors from the remote, or do you mean it unlocks the doors when you put the key in the door lock? If it works by remote, it should also start the car. If it doesn't work by remote, as above someone has probably replaced the electronics bit (probably a cheapo ebay attempt) and there's not much you can do (that I know of) apart from buy another key for £100 from BMW. e46_320i
Yes, on my spare key the doors can be locked & unlocked using the remote buttons, but it won't let me start the car with that key, unless I put in my main key & quickly change it to the spare. Any ideas why? Cheers
mit
I wonder if the transponder is just broken then... If you take the key to the dealer they can put it in a reader and read diagnostic information from the car. I suspect this won't work either? Not sure how you'd fix it though :s
Marcus
heres my issue one key will unlock /lock etc. one will start it.. neither will do both. and it now locks itself as i drive off..and needs 2 presses to unlock all doors..it didnt till about 2 weeks ago. any ideas. muly
Marcus have you tryed to reset the remotes using the diy ?, the auto lock feature which you said you car now does has to be programmed at the dealer and it sounds like your remotes have gone out of sync, for some reason both my remotes stoped working a few weeks back and would not open the door by remote, i done the reset out the owners manual and they have been fine ever since
Marcus
i cant find anyting in the manual dude. i have tried the 5 times ignition job..but couldnt get both remotes to do it.. ill try again another day
mit
If you want to program 2 keys you only put one of them in the ignition and do the button sequence, then within 30 seconds you do the button sequence on the 2nd key and the locks should pop open/closed again. The other thing it could be is that the key that won't unlock your car has a transmitter on a different frequency to your car's receiver (if it's been replaced at some point). There are 2 radio frequencies you can get and you might have the wrong one on this key (though if the key had come from BMW this wouldn't have been an issue as they know which frequency you have). Now you're going to tell me both your keys came with the car from new lol

MattBMW
Cassa, you have to have the Same MHZ other wise it won't work........check on the back of your diamond key for what you have got. Technically you don't reset the key fob you recoded it....the instructions are in the first post or check a page or two pack for a some other methods i posted. Think this could a function that needs to be activated.......if you come down to the meets get in contact with Onkar of OSC motorsport as he normally attends and his box of tricks can normally activate certain features. Sadly dropping the hood via the key fob it is not an unenabled feature. There is however a third party german device you fit that will drop the hood from the remote. i can't remember the name and the info was on Mtorque.co.uk but they have been closed down :-( and it now locks itself as i drive off..and needs 2 presses to unlock all doors..it didnt till about 2 weeks ago. any ideas. Interesting that Marcus noted the they needed two presses of the key to open both doors after resyncing the keys with the car, when they did not before. I have had the variable left mirror dip on reverse (so i can adjust the angle of dip from the wing mirror joystick) this feature has been programmed but the mirror still goes right down. I will resync my keys and see if the variable dip function appears. ps. i have attached a Key program optionsKey_coding_functions.pdf
