Dirty Tool
Dirty, At work at the mo so cant see the picture i posted which shows which way it turns, but I'm pretty sure your spot on tapping the right hand side. Try using some WD40 on and around the valve or some other lubricant and remember it will take some very heavy blows to dislodge depending on how bad it is. I ending up using a tyre mounter (like a small crowbar) and had to hit the end of it with a hammer to get it to go anywhere. HTH and good luck! Bang it on the right hand side. Thanks fellas...will give it another go with some heavy duty tools!

allymc
Ive got no valve in my tailpipe? Its an OEM silencer too!
Jamee
the exhaust may have been replaced in the past, or someone has totally removed the vavle. IIRC - i dont think all 330's come with them, as the older cars only had one pipe for the exhaust.

Rickton
Im tempted to do this at the weekend when iv got a spare 10 minutes, has anyone come across or noticed any potential for a derogatory effect? I have read the thread, and cant foresee any possible problems, but im very cautious by nature
konceppt
My last motorbike was a 2007 suzuki gsxr 750 k7.That has an exhaust valve as standard which is electronic/cable operated.I did the same to my bike and had that for a year with no problems.I am sure it is designed for the same reason and was definitely noticeable when i kept it stuck open.i am going to look at my exhaust later and see if i have got one in my car as well. If i have got one i will film it before and after to get an idea as to how much it changes...............

simonlpearce
As above really, had it done for a month and apart from the difference in noise there is absolutely no other change to the car.

konceppt
As above, I just went out to my car. I do have a valve in my exhaust but it is already open. And the thing is that its not rusted open.I can open and close it by hand but it sits open at rest.I got the missus to start the car and rev it up and the valve just stays open. There has only been one owner before me and i knew him.He is in his fifties and i know he would not have done this mod to his car. Whats do you reckon? DaveDunlop
is that with or without engine running?
konceppt
Both mate.at a standstill with the engine off it is open but free to move. start it up and idling its still open and free to move. when revving up it remains open. It is definitely not stuck open with rust because i can shut it by hand

Jarra Dave
Hey all, Had me rear bumper off today to replace parking sensors; thought I'd do this mod while I had easy access. I can also confirm that this makes a marked difference in the sound of my 323ci (1999). However, I thought I would also point out that if you wish to use the valve/flap again, it is worthwhile that you cap off the vacum valve itself to stop all the road cr@p getting in there and blocking it. If you do not plan on using it again then don't bother! Here is a couple of phots of what I mean. I have taped mine up with electricians tape, the valve is far enough away from the exhaust to worry about the heat. Just my tuppence worth....... Psyxologos
The valve in my 330 (2005) is rusted in the 'open' position too.
ahmet
gents, i've tried this mod today. the valve was in the shut position, so i disconnected the pipe and screwed a screw in to it. I then tried to open the butterfly valve and it wasn't open. i applied some force with a crow bar and have slightly bent the valve. can anyone advise on how to open this or prise it open as it's not opening any further. thanks
