keith- you putting this on the e46zone dc10 stand mate?

No mate - Im there, but Im on the e36coupe stand for everything this year.

Still, you can be sure that I'll be over to spend a while with you guys :D

No updates on the car really - Ive spent the last couple weeks finishing my final project (and had a few days away in Dubrovnic) for my advance engineering diploma... Handed it in and presented it to a panel of managers yesterday, and that's it! No more homework or assignments! Came top overall in my year of 20, so Im very pleased with myself - and got royally drunk last night. :)

So now all that's done there will be lots more time to work on the car :)

eh? your a student? how old are you keith?? if your younger than me i won't be happy with you previous list fo cars!! lol

I'm a 'older' cough student... I'm 27.

I changed careers from a being a successful sales person to apprentice engineer at 24. I couldn't stand the office environment any longer, so went trekking in the Himalayas, during which time I had a serious sit-down with myself and decide I had to chase something I wanted. I loved doing stuff with my hands, and wanted something creative and to gain a proper skill set, rather than using the 'gift of the gab' as my only skill so to speak.

I was on the brink of joining the RAF to become an avionic engineer, but right at the last minute the BAA Heathrow apprenticeship opened up it's age limit (from21 to 57 due to age discrimination laws!) and I was eligible. So I took a massive salary cut from about £30k to £14k to go back to college and train... The rest is history.

Love it though - best thing I've ever done and I love my job now. Plus working on the runways beats being sat at my old office desk... :)

Keith,

although I admire your efforts I regret to inform you that you owe me an apology!

3 minutes prior to clicking on this thread which I somehow managed to miss all these weeks I was politely asked by my missus to clean the kitchen while she put the kids to bed. I said no problem luv, leave it to me B)

I proceded to engrose myself in the world of OEM maintenance and repair and before I knew it I was 6 pages in and in a trance of disbelief..............I kid you not

Getting back to the apology! My missus eventually returned expecting the kitchen to be completely renovated, never mind clean and to her dismay I was exactly where she left me staring at a laptop.

I feel your blatant disregard of my family values needs to be addressed as it has caused me no end of ,how you say "ballache"

Your level of commitment to cars overshadows my commitment to my children :D

Seriously Pal, I admire your threads as they offer a real insight into what most of us have neither the time nor the patience to tackle. All I can say is fairplay

Now! I'm off to receive "ballache" and not the good kind B)

You can PM me for the apology :D:lol:

Update - Leather (Finally)

Finally, after 6 weeks or so, I have my seats back. They've been ready a week or so, but I couldn't find the time to drive back up to Brum as I've been so busy recently. I had a morning free Sunday just gone (had to be back for midday) so I set off early to make the drive up, pick them up and get home ASAP. I just about made it.

I had to wait until the next day to 'sort' the car out... So Monday they came back out.

Before fitting, I set about cleaning the carpet to bring it back up to a standard I am much happier with. It was pretty good overall, but in the footwell an accumulation of dust in the fibres had made it look a little faded. I did not have a wet-vac system, so instead I dry brushed much of the 'dust' to agitate it, and then vacuumed it off, repeating this process with a nail brush and a hose attachment on the vacuum. Slowly I rejuvenated 'blackness' back to the carpet. It is in a much better state than before, and the carpet is about as good as it can be, after fading just a little over time from the sunlight;

I also added genuine a parcel net (an M Coupe part, simply screwed into the carpet), and also treated the car to some brand new mats from Rossiters to complete the interior refresh, ready for the new leather.

The entire car now sits much better with me. The old interior mats were tatty and filthy, and the seats were creased, cracked, stained with all kinds of marks, and streaky from past Scuffmaster dye treatments. The whole cabin now feels 'complete', after the following;

- Clean steering wheel back to matt finish and scrub Tri-Colour stiching

- Cleaning all the old 'trim shine' off all interior plastics

- Addition of Becker HU

- Addition of Armrest

- New mats all round

- Seat retrim

Before re-fitting the seats, I took the time to scrub all the runners down which were a little dirty after 12 years.

I then cleaned all the plastic seat trims and adjustment handles with G101 solution, before wiping them down with IPA to leave them residue free. I then used G Teckniq C4 (my new best friend lol) to make all plastic look new again. They came up brilliantly (check them out in some of the pics B) ) which I'm really happy about, as the bases let the seats down when I got them back. C4 truly is the best liquid ever, after Bajan rum of course.

John (aka Sleeper - Bespoke Leathering forum sponsor) did a great job on the seats, the colour match is perfect, and he also repaired my slightly soft drivers bolster back to new - firm and tight. They cost a fair bit, but worth every penny in my eyes... the Champagne leather is a key part of this car, and now the inside is much closer to how it should be, in my vision.

I just hope the pics show just how well they came out!

I've got a good few more parts to fit, but have just been so busy recently I haven't had the time. I hope to get a few more of these bits fitted soon and not leave such a long time before the next update.

Cheers for having a look in.

Keith

I have just read this thread from start to finish and I am speechless!

Most of the cars that you see having this much attention are usually pretty minty to begin with but the way you have shown the "warts and all" is an inspiration.

Well done Keith, I look forward to reading more.
