I don't think you can draw parallels with the ttints lot

I'm not drawing parallels with the ttints lots, I haven't even mentioned them so you have arrived at that conclusion yourself. Just making a point that these units seems to be suffering from the drawbacks of the Dynavin and in all fairness John isn't selling them on whilst they have these faults.

"lot" was supposed to be lol, I was using iphone, it obviously autocompleted and didn't notice the mistake, not sure why it chose a t as its miles away from whatever button I pressed :S .

Though now that I look back I realise you didn't actually mention ttints, I was just trying to make sure he didn't get slated like ttints deserved because IMO he doesn't

No worries buddy. John seems like a decent bloke from what I've read and wouldn't tar him with the same brush as those other cowboys.

The real parallels here are of manufacturing quality.

You all drive prestige German cars. Presumably somewhere in your buying decision came a proven track record for design and manufacture of the very highest degree.

Compared with two CHINESE companies who where advertising for sale units which initially only existed as a design.

The very second "working" prototypes appeared, they where sold to the unsuspecting early adopters.

There is a sizeable base of Dynavin users out there all vainly hoping for firmware updates and other bug fixes.

It would appear that there's a few people on here simply waiting for paid for units to be manufactured.

What do you think the chances are, that when/if these units appear, they will be riddled with bugs?

Just like the Dynavin was from the beginning of this year, and still is now.

Just a thought.

Howdy chaps,

I, like a few people have been watching this thread develop with anticipation but sadly it seems it's turning out to be a right pain for those who have committed so far.

Learning from all of the threads out there it's clear that the problems with distribution are common worldwide which doesn't help the guy's on here I know.

If it all go's 'pear-shaped' I'm in contact with a chap in America who fits these things for a living and he has realised there is an issue with distribution and 'technical' issues on some units to the point he is considering starting up on his own. There's lots to discuss in the detail but basically he will only ship units he's tested and that are obviously in his posession. Cost - shipping etc all tbc but it might be an option for those who are losing hope with other distributors.

If you have OEM sat nav its 40 pin. If not its 17 pin

I spoke to John again and he seems to think they'll be in stock next Wednesday (the e46 facelift headunit this is).

What about the non facelift version? Or whats the difference? Thought one was 17 pin and one was 40 pin?

Sorry, I didn't enquire about the 17pin model but yeah you're right, 17 pin is pre facelift and 40 pin is facelift.

The 40 pin is due in next wed.

Are all facelifts 40pin then? I thought only the satnav models had the 40 pin connector.

I'm not certain enough to give the answer really B) But going by the info on the website:

BMW 3 Series:1998 to 2001-E46(BMW Old 17-Pin connector)

BMW 3 Series:2001 to 2005-E46(BMW new 40-Pin connector)

Might be an idea to take out the old headunit and check before ordering just to be on the safe side!

Just to clear things up i'll say it again :D

If you have OEM satnav in your car you'll need a 40 pin

If you dont have Sat Nav, IE you have a cassette player or single CD head unit then you'll need a 17 pin.

Whether your car is facelifted or not makes no difference to this.

I would recommend you ALL ask for your money back and pay for them as and when there is clear (fixed) UK stock in place.

The Dynavin and other others are the same thing.. probably the same company knocking them out, just with maybe a different software layer in place (i.e. GUI).

As for buying directly from China, remember you're paying a LOAD for delivery for a single item. To reduce this, get together with 5 mates and buy in bulk, this will save a fortune... (then send them on via UK post).

If it were my money, I'd rather it gains interest in my bank than the lucky gits who seem to have you guys on an endless trip...

The chap I spoke to said money would be taken straight away and not after it has been dispatched which is what put me off placing the order.

Thanks for clearing up the 17/40pin debate rob :D
