Panzer007
Hi all, $650 from the States plus $75 shipping, guaranteed 3-5 days delivery, works out at £471. I'm 3rd on the list so when I order it we'll see if it gets here on time. All units shipped are tested prior to sending, will arrive with US maps just have to download from Dynavin the UK stuff. Anyone have any idea on UK tax on goods from the US? Cheers
FeelingLucky
If the value is over £18 then customs will add import duty at the appropriate rate, and then add VAT to the total. Electrical good are typically charged at 12-14% So, £620 by the time you're finished.
peakey
Thats a bit of a risk getting it from the states dude, theres a guy selling them in the UK on eBay Here for £475 all in. I just think you are better off with Car-Vision, wait for them to get them in and test them as it seems people are selling units here that dont work 100%, it will be difficult to get your money back if you buy the unit independantly unless you get them professionally fitted. Oh and i am not linked to Car-Vision by the way ! If theres another company supplying and fitting them then thats just as good.
Panzer007
Thanks for the response fellas, Interesting information on the 'duty' to be paid. I have been informed that not all packages are stopped and checked but knowing my luck................ As for the E Bay unit, again thanks for the head's up but when you read that advert I'm not convinced that the seller is 'legit' or even in the UK, I might be wrong. Check out some of the spelling and grammar...I'm not being a stuck up 'ponce' but that does not fill me with confidence. However, thanks again for pointing it out. The US seller is actually sponsored on E46 Fanatics and fits these for a living, he also tests each unit before sending it out and provides a bespoke fitting guide, step by step. When looking at other threads, it almost compares in difficulty to the bluetooth fit using a Parrott set up. If I get one and fit it ok then It should benefit all others if I do the write up in a DIY.
Mike-
You don't pay import tax blah blah if you mark 'GIFT' on the front, unless that's changed lately. I've never paid it though.
peakey
I've been talking to the guy on eBay and he seems to think that apart from a problem with the supplier getting the 17/40 min models mixed up there is no problem with the units ... Makes you think either he doesn't really know or Car-Vision are maybe not too clued up on the intsalls !

They do still check and its up to you to prove its a gift. I think if its marked warranty exchange unit, then no taxes are due
paulfoley30
MINES ARRIVED!! It actually has, I've just got in from work and there was a nice big box on the bottom of the stairs for me. No instructions on how to fit it though so could be an interesting night for me!

Hallsy
Same here, would be nice to see some pics and an honest opinion. If the price of these stays as they are then I'd be interested if they are a quality unit. Ordinarilly I would give a cheap chinese unbranded headunit a wide birth, but as I'd rather it looked OEM there's little option without paying ££££'s for the BMW nav. The reviews of the Dynavin units sounds fairly good, apart from the price hike, so if these units are an improvement they ought to be pretty decent
RickyZ
If this is good I will def be buyin it so please publish the reviews ASAP lol
paulfoley30
At last! Looking forward to hearing how you find it Liking the look of it so far, they seem to have sent all the bits anyway. I just need to get down to BMW and get the air con relcation unit, though if I have to wait until after the weekend I think Ill just fit it without. paulfoley30
Did you order this from Car-Vision then ? I thought it would be delivered to them and they would be fitting it ? The impression I got is that you'd have to take it to them for the free fitting. I hope my brother hasn't just took the parcel and sent them on their way when they arrived then because that would be just typical and would explain the lack of fitting instructions Ah righty , there's been that many links & prices on here just lately , ive lost track of what's what ! I know the feeling I'm not 100% sure I've got the correct unit anymore after all this talk about number of pins, though I am now 99% sure having seen the unit that has arrived Looking forward to seeing some pics and a review, as looking to get the Dynavin or this one at Xmas with some rear screens for the little man. Looking forward to this - Install guide and lots of pics requested please I'll get pics, reviews and hopefully a fitting guide up ASAP (probably Sunday as I need the car early tomorrow, so can't be taking it apart tonight only to fail at fitting this radio ) On a side note, I don't yet have an air con relocation module, I went to BMW today and the bloke just confused me (it didn't help that he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about) I take it I don't need the carrier, just the facia?? I looked at the part numbers and though I had the right ones, then just got confused??
