Natedogg
tyres stretching is safe - the stretch is not the issue - its the people who do not run either the right tyres pressures or do not maintain there pressure weekely. if you run stretch you want a minimum of 35psi in the tyres, more if the car is big and heavy. People need to realize how hard it is to unseat a tire bead WITH correct tire pressures. You already need a pneumatic machine to unseat tires which are deflated. As cliche as it sounds, take into account most drift cars use stretched tires and look at all the torture they put into the tires and cars themselves... Defects in the tire from production is another story. If it was a production problem and it happens to be stretched as well, most people will gun for it and make stretch the scapegoat. Ignorant people, I swear. not meant to be a rant as this is more about what the tyre manufactures say the tyres will fit width wise but i'm still amased how the tyre stretch is always blamed and not the 20psi in the tyre cos the owner hasn't checked it for a few month. i think owners handbooks say you should check stock tyres every couple of weeks. Jorge-
Mine are clocked upto 32psi now, 1 of which has dropped to 29 in 2 days, which I expected to be honest. I'll pump them up to 35 on Monday when I check again

Just bought some nice 15inch rims, 8J, putting 195/65 winter tyres on them, should be ok with that much stretch shouldnt it ?? TIA
Gaz
Not for your 330 Mark? 15's wont clear your brakes.

Natedogg
a 195/65 is not a stretch. a 165/50 is a stretch!! lo. i'll be fine mate. Jorge - 32psi is below factory figures isn't it? My loon ran 33/34 front and about 36/38 rear by the book i think (from memory) and they never leaked any air

Phantom Mark
yup I am indeed a first class nipple.............. I am normally really switched on with such things, but your right, I came to fit those wheels and tyres and the damned things dont clear the Calipers..........gutted, and rubberless..........desperation for legal rubber is making me order some brand new alloys in the morning with tyres. Anyone want some cool retro 15inch modernlines with really good winter tyres fitted ???? Wish I had seen your post re: fitting before I bought the damned tyres, or indeed wheels. J.T.
I was told not to let the pressure go below 44psi on the 215/35 over 8.5j and 225/40 over 10j I have fitted. JT
Natedogg
44psi is rubbish mate, will just strip the centyre of the tyre out and 215 on a 8.5 is only a mild stretch. i'd go 35 front and 38 rear, car should grip better wet and dry like that. remember tyre pressure will increase as they get hot as well - i expect yours on a hot day will cross 50psi easily. my rears, set at 38 cold, will creep 42/43 after a decent motorway run of 100miles plus
noclue
Hi, Im new to the forum been looking at it for a while now. I have acquired an e46 with 10j on the back the arch has been modded but the wheel sticks out from the arch and it has stretch look tyres on. Just wanted to know what is the law regarding these are they legal or not?
momo
I think so long as the tread part of the tyre is within the wheel arch having the rim itself sticking out beyond the arch is legal. For example - although stupid this is legal:-
mit
The law on stretched tyres is the same as for civil partnerships between men.
