Shaun330 Posted June 27, 2016 Report Share Posted June 27, 2016 Hey guys/girls decided to get myself a bit of a toy since driving a daddy wagon as past couple of years Just like she enjoys her shopping i enjoy a wee drive in the car so i justified it well i thought. Previously been a Honda man with a few civics and a Dc5 so the BMW is new territory for me and still picking up a few hints and tips along the way. Bought an e46 330ci sport after initially looking at various others but it felt right so pulled the trigger. My first was an immaculate grey E30 320i which I bought & sold 11 long years ago. I currently own my lovely silver E46 320d Touring SE which I'm in love with haha! Well, I've just bought a BMW 330cd sport for a very fair price and I absolutely love it. I've owned a few fast cars but the 330 is just awesome compared (power and economy).. It's fairly high miles but does have full service history with it, runs lovely, feels nice and tight.. I drive a Silver 320D E46 Touring with Anthracite grey rims. Its my first BMW, love her loads. She has a healthy 240,000+ on the clock and still going strong. I hope that if I get any troubles with the car I can come here and get some help. I have 2 different jobs, I'm a landscape gardener and a service engineer for an electronics company. Presumably I'm just that bit older than most of you guys on here (52) but I still feel about 27. Does that count??. I work at Her Majesty's Pleasure in a local prison in and around the Staffordshire Moorlands area. Never considered a BMW before but due to a bereavement 18 months ago I've been rapidly getting through cars due to financial restraints. Over the past four years I've had an '05 Corolla T-Sport (189bhp), a '62 Corsa SRi, a '62 Astra SRi (180bhp), a '13 Corsa SRi and now the 320Cd. I was sick of paying out money and depreciation on cars (the last Corsa cost me £5400 in payments and depreciation over 11 months!). I thought "..if I'm going to have an older car, I want something nice - something to enjoy until my finances improve..", hence why I'm here. Suddenly I wanted an E46 Coupe. Trawling through Auto Trader there were plenty for sale but not many in the locality. Getting a bit cheesed off on not finding what I fancied, I upped the price bracket to 8k and trawled again. And there it was. And only 20 odd miles from my home at a dealership just outside of Burton. My criteria had always been: no RWD, no diesel, no leather seats, and no black paintwork, but as soon as I saw the photos, I had to go and have a look. The following Saturday I went over to Burton, pulled up and there was no car there!. Feeling a bit disgruntled I chatted to the mechanics - the car WAS still there but someone else was test-driving it!. Eventually he pulled up in the car which was squealing away (needed a replacement belt) and I was already put off. I'd also gone with my usual new car-purchase head on (car has to be mint and flawless) and hadn't adjusted my brain to an older car. Put off number two. I stood talking to the other guy who had an old Celica and we were both looking around the BMW, whilst I was making a mental note of what would need doing - pebble ding here, pebble ding there, scuff on the drivers seat, a few stone chips etc. The other guy had put a deposit on a car he hadn't seen (in Scotland!) and didn't know what to do. I'm a great believer in fate and told him to buy it then. Eventually he left the premises and I still had my "new" car head on. After talking to the dealer I made the excuse it was too big (well, after a Corsa, most things are!) and left as well, feeling totally overwhelmed by it all. All weekend I pondered over what to do. Being single I had no-one to bounce ideas off, so it drove me crazy. I must have been on the dealership website about thirty times. Off to work on Monday and thought I'd ring up to see if the car had gone. Fate and all that. It hadn't! The guy didn't come back that afternoon after all. I took a few hours off work - they're very understanding! - took a test drive and that was it. Great to drive. On the Tuesday morning I was told that the other guy came back to buy it after travelling to Scotland to see the other car (which was a dog apparently!). Too late mate, sorry! The car was well specced so the price of £7990.00 didn't phase me. A LOT of car for the money (I'd already forked out £12500.00 on the Astra thirty months earlier). Yes it was way over the odds but I wouldn't have got another E46 coupe with such a complete package. 320Cd M Sport, 2005, registered on the 30th June that year,45k miles, full service history, Futura exclusive leather, xenon's, adaptive lights, electric sunroof, heated seats, H & K system, refurbished alloys, nearly new tyres all the way around. I couldn't resist. So I got the car on the 18th June this year. Getting it home wasn't without incident - a woman with children in the back pulled out on me from a junction. How I missed her I don't know - not a good time to test the brakes in a strange car! Four days in, off to work and the car breaks down - the drive belt pulley wheel had seized (after the belt had been replaced prior to collection). The car was towed back to the dealership and I got it back a few days later. A couple of weeks later the car was squealing again. A precautionary trip to the dealership got another belt replaced under warranty. Since then, it's been great and I'm loving the car. I wasn't sure at first due to the "solidness" of it - a proper drivers car I would call it. But I wouldn't change it for anything else - whether I'll get bored I don't know but I'm doubting it. The only thing I've done since is to have the swirl flaps removed and blanked over and I'm hoping that loads of TLC will keep the car sweet in the coming few years. I've finally taken some (reasonable) photos of the car to share with you all. Thanks for all your input so far - it's nice to be able to ask any questions on here and get a decent reply. Cheers guys! I'm a biker and the philosophy is that it doesn't matter what you ride, It's the camaraderie that matters. I presumed that this site may be the same. Not everyone wants a six cylinder super-smooth three litre, you cut your cloth to fit your circumstances and that's what I did with this car. I'm well satisfied and not particularly easy to please, so it's all a bonus! good luck with the car,i suppose folk are just likening the difference in the engines,they are quite different and sounding,but the 320d engine is still one of the best 2.0d engines out there,obviously if you wanted a 3.0d then im sure you would of bought one,and you get ya thrills from two wheels,which is way more a buzz than four wheels. It's just the sound is all.... My daughter has a c220cdi Coupe and her boyfriend a 118d (actually a 2.0l), and I always know when they have arrived outside, which I always rag them about...lol. But they always say it's not noisy at all...??? So one day I told Burnham, (BF) to go sit in the kitchen and I'll go down the road and then park up again on the drive. When I went in he said "Bloody hell, I see what you mean about a tractor...lol...lol...". But it's all good fun.
