E46 330cd Decat Downpipe

Recommended Posts

Just fitted a decat downpipe supplied by Stan at Ecotune.

The car now responds much better, quicker throttle response and no cloud of black smoke on full throttle.

Does exactly what his advert says.

Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a bit more poke.

Looking forward now to getting it mapped.

LESS smoke? Hows that?

Sounds like it might be worth a look in the new year.. :D

Is this the one you bought?

Linky

Yes that's it. I don't know about the smoke but when I spoke to Stan he said it would smoke less. He explained why but I can't remember the details, I think it was something to do with a more efficient burn. The description part of the page is very accurate if my results are anything to go by.

Give Stan a call and he should be able to explain. Really helpful and first class service.

Oh yes, these cars feel completely different after a remap don't they? Have fun with it mate but be careful with the loud pedal when the weather turns in the coming weeks! B)

Did you get a live remap to take the decat into account or a normal remap?

It was done by my local Evolution rep. he downloads the map and data and sends it to them and they supply anew map taking into account all the readings.

He advised me that he had 2 maps and loaded the lower performance of the two to avoid any smoking. I gave it a try and he then replaced it with the higher power map, which I've just had a run in.

Even better than the first and still no smoke.

I should get the figures later on.

Well impressed, but as you say worth the watching in the coming weather. I think I'll leave the DSC alone for the time being.

Hi all, nOOb here that has just bought a 330cd M-Sport manual.

Had my car remapped by Eco-Tune on Wednesday to about 285bhp, Had swirl flaps taken out and replaced by blanking plates, 6 new glow plugs fitted today and waiting until the 5th Jan to have the de-cat pipe fitted and map changed to get close on 300bhp.

What are you're initial thoughts after you have had all the same things done in near enough the same car?

This is one chap who took his 330d to 300bhp; http://antandpete.vault5.com/homepage.htm

Pretty much just the same as you've done above plus an intercooler upgrade.

Good luck, let us know how it goes :)

Thanks for that NUTZ,

My first impression after the remap, considering I've had to wait for the weather to clear and the swirl flags deleted before I could drive it in anger is that it is quite brutal once the turbo kicks in, although a fair bit of turbo lag (turbo lag up to 2200rpm) but that apparently will be sorted out once the decat pipe is put on and the ECU is remapped.

Great thing is, even though I have been 'exploring' the performance today, It still returned at least 35mpg.

Getting a bit impatient already about having the decat pipe fitted as I'm now wanting more performance.

Can tell that I'm going to be spending a fair bit of money on this to get it faster, and faster

Yeah, the turbo is half the car. If you can get a graph off the mapper (assuming dyno) so you know where all the power is. Mine for example.

The MPG can be great or not so great depending how you treat it (as always I guess), MPG isn't too much of a concern and mines at 22 atm, but behind a truck on a motorway I got 58mpg the other week

Its nice to have another 330cd guy going for more power :) problem is you'll start looking at LSD as you get more and more :P

No LSD for me, I own a Lotus Exige without LSD running at 260bhp and I quite like being in charge of my own destiny.

Be interested in finding a source for an intercooler, but my original plan was to keep the car as standard apart from a remap - already I'm spending £££££££££££ in my mind - this censored.gif is too addictive

Ok, Had the Decat sport downpipe fitted on the 5th, and had car MOTd straight afterwards and passed with no problem just in case anyone is concerned about emissions. I've done about 400 miles since and 'explored' the performance a bit more and with every mile it just pulls more and more, for a diesel, this is one rapid, quiet, smooth, comfortable motor. I worked out the other day how much it would cost to get about an extra 100bhp out of a N/A petrol car and it would be about £5-10k on engine rebuild/replacement/turbo/supercharged. So, for in the region of £700 I would fully recommend the decat downpipe and re-map to ANYONE with a diesel.

Oh, and hearing the sound of the turbo??? What noise???

Hi thanks for all the onfo... here goes. like you im going for the remap and also looking at the ecotune decat downpipe... any ideas on the center pipe and back box? or is it not worth it?

is it better if i get the down pipe and a nice rear box i.e can the center pipe stay ok or is it worth upgrading? If so any ideas where to go.. like the lok of this ecoune company.

I had mine done some time ago along with a BlueFlame CAT Back Exhaust system. Spoken to Stan via email a good few times nice guy, really helpful and it is a spot on product, really does make a difference to hom my 330d drives, re the smoke yes there is a small difference (mine never really smoked anyway) but its worht the £150+ trust me. As for the MOT test criteria in 2012 this may prove an issue as the MOT tester will be asked to check for non tampered manufacturer emmission control systems, but as far as I could make out(mine went for an MOT 3 weeks or so ago) when hooked up is comfortably sailed through the MOT test adn I compared the results with the results as my car is now with the std set up and guess what right now mine's cleaner on the machine than it was back then(same machine same tester-done at work)

To answer a couple of statements made earlier yep you can hear the turbo spool up and it does sound nice plus even doing it on a standard car you'd notice a difference when driving as it'll feel less restricted just look at the difference between the 2.

If you're looking for your d to drive better and be more responsive you'll be a fool not to take a look at this device, if you're worried re the MOT issue simply speak to Stan he'll know the score and will put you straight...

Next up for me if I go the whole hogg will be one of these me thinks

Good thread and am keen to see how people get on.

Allard made a Front Mount Interrcooler kit for the 330d's and they were much larger than the OEM item (can only be a good thing?) CA automotive also do a kit and it looks really well made

with re located fans etc. This was back in from memory 2006 owner spoke of better throttle response and a feeling of more exploitible power today with a decat I suspect the feeling would be more so. I know that last year I think it was towards the back end of the year Total BMW or Performance BMW mag run a feature on a CA customers car with all the bits and it sounded like it was the business.

Might be worth talking to CA if this is the route you need or want to take
