JayP07
Theres a set of lights on here in the classified for £50 posted,I assume they are the ones? Maybe try one of the BMW breakers such as Fab Recycling to see if they will cut the loom parts off for you. Might work out cheaper and maybe easier than getting them from the dealers? Thats the set mate... Just double checking the condition of the boot lights. I've emailed Fab Rec - Great site thank you for that! lets see what they say. I think they will definitely be cheaper than the dealers.
JayP07
Came home this evening to find my facelift lights waiting for me, happy days Bought a full set, looms and all from Fab as Eko suggested (Cheers mate!!) I would definitely recommend them as their customer service was spot on.... I grabbed my tools, printed the guide and managed to get them fitted. Problem! - I did the right side first and had no problem. However, when I had finished the left side (leaving one wire disconnected) an error light came on. Eko did you have this - the left hand side boot light had a blank plate for the second bulb where as the facelift holder has 2 bulbs on both sides? Not sure if this set up has caused a problem
Eko
My boot light had a blank on the facelift ones Jay so maybe just use your original bulb holder with the blank? No errors showing on mine mate. JayP07
JayP07
My boot light had a blank on the facelift ones Jay so maybe just use your original bulb holder with the blank? No errors showing on mine mate. Thought as much, I was just too tired to do it... i'll switch it tomorrow but doesn't that mean we'll be missing a light at some point with regards to how they were meant to be? As well as the additional brake light of course.... Edited June 17, 2013 by JayP07
Eko
The boot light is a foglight Jay.Or it would be if our cars were wired with 2 of them but only the driver side is wired from the factory. JayP07
JayP07
Thanks for all the help E, I appreciate it.... I didn't even think about the fog light being a possibility - that shows how often I use it. That just leaves the break light - Let me get this straight when the two break wires are connected did the second light turn on? (i didn't bother connecting them after your experience) Or did it just cause the error. I don't see why its an issue - its just providing power to another bulb when switched... what creates the fault? You said you tried 5w bulbs right?.... on the previous page that guys said it was solved, "Replaced the 21w tail bulbs with 5w units"

Changed my facelift lights for pre-facelift Booooo Look MUCH better That look really suites your car so I see where you're coming from...just the red and amber is Those rims are mental mate where are they from? did you put the body kit on? - Your car looks sweet On topic: My error was actually being caused by a dodgy bulb - It didn't matter if I had the blank boot holder or the facelift one, no error. Do facelift lights have two fog lights?
JayP07
Replaced the 21w tail bulbs with 5w units - light error sorted! Shane... Can you just confirm how you got both brake lights to work at the bottom of the cluster? Were both bulbs 5w and how did you wire it up? Thanks mate... JayP07
Been doing a bit of reading on this and its starting to get upsetting... keep seeing this come up... "will need the light control module reprogramming or else it'll throw up bulb out warnings for the rear lights. " I've not done any re programming so I need some advice on this one lads... Is there no other solution?
E40-6
I just used one light on the bottom instead of two.(no more errors) Brake light is on the top and i wired my both my boot lights to the fog lights (duel fogs). I was getting told that you need to code lcm and that you didnt.

No one has mentioned doing this in all the threads i have read. Does a face lift e46 has duel fogs? Currently I have a single tail light on each cluster but it doesnt look right. (see ekos pic above) What is it/what measurement is it that draws the error when two bulbs come off the same wire... is it a matter of resistance? there must be a way around it... TriggerFish
Duelling fog lights - do they fight each other?! This might be useful to you though? http://e46.bmwklub.cz/download/file.php?id=39021&sid=a10e25c329f8b0e5c2fa9c0e0a1dd8a6&mode=view As I understand it, the facelift could have either one or two foglights. I think one was factory fit, but the second was easy to add (I think). Mine had a bulb there but it wasn't enabled in NCS as a fog, so not sure what was going on with mine! Hardy-Ha very funny Thanks for the link mate. What do the numbers 43,49,30 etc refer to ? Still want to understand what actually causes the fault when then two tail lights are wired up to see if there's a way round it?
Marcus
I fitted my facelift years ago with no issues and all lights working. On a facelift the lower 2 on the cluster and the boot light are sidelights , the top cluster is brake and the fog is on the boot. on mine pre facelift with facelift lights fitted. all 3 cluster are side lights the top cluster gets brighter for brake .and the boot is the fog, No errors or issues. Thanks for the post Marcus really appreciate the info mate however it's a tease in the sense that your saying its entirely possible to do without re-programming (Fantastic News!) but do you remember how you wired it up to get it to work without issue? That's where I'm struggling Btw your car looks very nice is that the car you're talking about?

What are flying leads? and what was special about the plugs you bought if anything? Did you have to cut the original plug off? Also what is the voltage of your bulbs? did you bother getting 5w ones. Sorry for all the questions mate there's not much help on this topic.
