Bmw E46 325I Or 330I, Help Needed.

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what the main differences are between the 2 cars. Was initially looking for an E46 330i but after searching i cant seem to find any with about 60k miles or less for my budget of around £7k.

Is the power difference between these 2 cars a huge noticeable difference, would it bother you?

Also currently looking at a 325i with alcantara interior, is there many of these around as iv only really seen them with leather interior,

Is £7k enough to pick up a decent example with 60k miles?

Thanks for any help

Ken

Hi Ken welcome to the forum.

Firstly, having owned a 325 and a 330ci i can clearly say the 330 is the better option, there are a lot of posts on here which suggest the 325i doesn't really make financial sense in comparison to a 330i

the 325i is nearly 40 BHP down on a 330 and the MPG remains almost the same, and insurance wise theres not much in it neither.

the 330's- theres a lot more of them around too (from experience searching) its just a bad time of year to buy a car, and i'd say you'd be better getting one with leather with a view to selling it on as the ones with alacantra seem to be less desirable.

Hope this helps

Most people on here would say get the 330 including myself. Has a bit more power and torque, running costs virtually the same along with MPG. I think if you find a really clean 325i for a really decent price then its not a bad purchase. Most do come with leather not seen many with Alcantara recently. Depends what you prefer. Do a search as there have been threads on 325's vs 330's.

As a 325 owner I'd also say get the 330. You'll just kick yourself if you don't, especially if you become a regular on this forum hehehe

Thanks Mate :) Have you decided on a Sport or SE spec? if you buy an SE and keep looking at this forum - youll wish you'd bought an sport (well i did with my last car anyway LOL)

no worries, defiantly a sport. Have a few other requirements aswell, so im just waiting for the right one really.

Firstly what are the differences in spec between the SE and SPORT?

A Sport comes with:

- Sport seats

- Sport suspension (different springs, shocks and wishbones)

- Sport trim (steering wheel, kick plates, bumpers, sills)

- Sport alloys (either MV1's or MV2's)

- An instant +10 man points over the SE.

I got a 54k, 330i Sport for 7k last year. Get the 330 Sport. And get a good one, not one which has been owned by a pikey (make sure it's got premium tyres, ALL service history (from decent places), no crap mods, plenty of receipts and evidence of work done on it (and there should be a lot if it's been looked after).

I have a 325ci and am perfectly happy with my choice.

i got a mint car that is about half a second slower to 60. That is approximately a blink of an eye ;)

To me a mint car that hadn't been abused was far more important than a marginal performance difference.

And the 325 IS better on fuel than a 330 - just do a search and you will see people getting just over 300 miles to a tank in a 330 whereas the 325 is just under 400 miles.

Go with the best condition car you find of the 2, not the best badge!
