///Marty
Nice work there Marty top install, did consider this myself at one point but don't think ill be brave enough, is there actually any companies that could do this? top work marty, looks hawt. excellent work marty im green with envy!!!! Looks amazing Marty, real Top job! Gratz Awesome job must have had some sweaty forehead moments doing that. I just would not have the time or patience or balls to atempt that so fair play man good job The Alpine Vehicle Hub is the biggest load of %&^* I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Steer well clear of it unless you like the idea of having a Commodore 64 in the middle of your dashboard. Ignore all the Americans who say it's great. It isn't, unless you're happy with pressing the screen 4 times to change radio stations, 5 times to make a phone call via bluetooth, or not having your ipod tracks update on the screen (so 5 songs later it still says it's playing the first one). That's a very good job indeed mate, well done. Wow, looks like an amazing install! Thanks peeps. It was definately one of the longer mods i've done to my car ( i reckon about 15-16hrs in total) but now it's all done was very much worth it. And i'm glad i decided to wait for the bezel from mybimmer.net. The only other bezel i have seen is dicky's which to my untrained eye looked fantastic, but as Mit said earlier on in the thread it is difficult to believe that these bezels are made by hand by one guy in a workshop. The quality and fitment is amazing, the finish is about as close to OE as it could be. I used a similar sized bezel in my E39 which admitidly cost a fraction of what this one did, but it always used to hack me off how the black plastic had a shiny finish to it. This one blends in beautifully. @ TJN: There are definately places that will do it although i would certainly try and find somone who has done one before as if it's not done right it could cause all sorts of problems with your heating. Mit payed to have his done, think it cost him about £600. I would be willing to take a couple of days holiday and do another one for less than that if you really want it doing and can provide all the parts. @Mit. LOL @ commadore 64. That was the thing that put me off using it, despite not having to modify the heater box. It's a real shame too cos the bezels for those fit flush up to the screen. It's difficult to tell it's not a BMW option.

May be up for a meet, and you can listen to my bloody exhaust then too Cheers dude, I'm well happy with it. Sounds good. its in Brum somewhere - at a RAF museum. Been a couple of times before it's not massive, but a good collection of well looked after motors. There was talk of a meet there back in December but it never materialised. I look into some dates after bluewater and i can hear that burble.

Davey boy might have his done by then too - he has found a UK supplier for the bezels which could be good for anyone else thinking of doing the conversion. ///Marty
i thought about this but i dont know if i can cut my heater box to bits Go for it! It's not as daunting as it sounds. The hardest part for me was getting the HU to sit in the right location as my bezel didn't come with any kind of cage wait and see what happens with Dave, apprently his is coming with a cage which might make things even easier. ///Marty
wrong size for H/U, didnt bother checking size for car seeing as it didnt fit H/U. Wounded. They i thought mine was wrong when i first received it cos i could only just get the front of the HU to come through the aperture. Did some more research on and figured it must be the right one after all though. Have seen some where it is mounted right forward like this: Prefer it sat back more though, the top of my screen finishes pretty much flush with the top part of the bezel. DaveDunlop
mine was nearly the right size, just a couple of mm out, could live with that but was a bit of a bigger noticeable gap at the bottom like the one above ^^^
///Marty
If there were more room to trim more off the heater box, i would be able to have the screen sitting perfectly parallel with the bezel. I already took about an additionial 10mm off the box to accommodate it but another 15 would had been better. Did you find out whether dicky used some sort of box or just gaffa? ///Marty
yeh he used a metal plate. Yeah figured there must have been something cos i put mine in temporarily with the plate but no heat proof silicone so i could test the unit. After about an hour the heat had caused the gaffa to bubble and separate from the metal. The heat proof silly sorts that one out though.

wozza
Hi marty Great job with the install... looks relly good. In the fist pic you have an adaptor fascia plate to fit an aftermarket single din head unit. Was wondering where you got it?? I got one off ebay but the fitment is s**t. yours looks alot better quality.
