Kind of done the angel eyes, just havent got round to putting the lights back in the car yet as its not on the road at the mo.

Oh yeah forgot your insurance renewal isn't until your birthday. LOL - they made it into the headlights without damaging them then?

Lol, yeah they went in this time without any problems, and the lights came out a lot quicker too, much much easier a second time round.

My Bday on 27th Jan so will be 25, insurance drops by £400-£500 which helps as i had a prang just under a year ago!

Well up for a meet anytime after end of Jan though.

That looks superb Marty, bet your well chuffed! Does look an awful lot of work though, but the results speak for themselves. Would so love to put a double din in mine, and now seeing the pics I may just have a stab at doing it. Might be my christmas holiday project ;)

It wont take much persuading for me to get ordering. Best do some research into which head unit I want. Quite fancy the Clarion MAX983HD, but equally all the decent manufactures make some real nice head units.

Decisions, decisions, decisions..

Damn you Marty ;)

It wasnt the storage that caught my eye but the user interface, being an Apple Mac head I love pretty interfaces and saw a video of the Clarion in action, all drag and drop stuff which I love. The 40Gb hard drive I doubt would get much use as I would hard wire in my ipod like you have, much more convenient. Looks like the credit card is gonna get a bashing real soon!!

Yeah, just been reading up on it on the Clarion website. Looks very smooth. The interface was the thing that put me off Alpine (no offence to any alpine peeps). I've heard they are the best in terms of sound quality but the pages just looked a bit basic for my liking. The pioneer isn't as nice as that one but a good comprimise for me. I also already had the pioneer ipod adaptor from my previous install which helped.

Thanks for the kind words Jay.

Can't say i'l be selling it anytime soon, unless i see one of those new systems at a decent price.

I'd like to say it was good enough to qualify as "machine work", unfrtunately it was just a grinder and a vice!

I have to say it is a toss up between a Clarion or Pioneer, I havent got bits for either so I can go either way. I can see why you went for the Pionner, does look really good.

I have only heard good things about Alpine, but like you say the interface is a bit naff and to use it as a sat nav you have to put some weird almost like standalone sat nav unit inside the head unit. Not feeling that at all.

I am not to worried about the sound quality because I wouldnt be upgrading the speakers for a while, and just the better amp from the new HU will make the OEM speakers sound better anyway.

The words are deserved...

Well you know who to PM for first refusal when you do wanna get rid...

Yeah, If you were going to go down the alpine route you would be better to go for the screen and seperate units that are mounted in the boot. You have to take apart the screen to make it fit the bezel but once it's in you would be hard pushed to tell that it's not a factory installed unit. And you don't have to do the heater box mod either!

Yeah I might consider the car entertainment hub thingy that Alpine do, but am still drawn to the Clarion, I actually think the decision has been made, I am just finding excuses not to order!

The Alpine Vehicle Hub is the biggest load of %&^* I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Steer well clear of it unless you like the idea of having a Commodore 64 in the middle of your dashboard. Ignore all the Americans who say it's great. It isn't, unless you're happy with pressing the screen 4 times to change radio stations, 5 times to make a phone call via bluetooth, or not having your ipod tracks update on the screen (so 5 songs later it still says it's playing the first one).
