E46 Convertible Hard Top.....

Recommended Posts

The stand alone is £150 and the cover is £100 from BMW. Hardtops on their own go for £450 - £700 on Ebay depending on colour. Got a friend in Rochester with a paint shop so not too far from you. B)

When I bought mine, the guy selling the car wanted £1000 for the hardtop and the stand!!!

At that price I knew he was dreaming so I bought the car and told him I wasnt interested in the hardtop, in which he said I could have it for £800.

When I went to collect the car I waved £600 at him and he took it.

Its the wrong time of year to buy though, throughout summer I saw loads go for around £400.

Ok......

Well I have agreed a very reasonable price on the hard top. Will be going to get it Saturday! Providing its in good condition etc....

Next question... What do I need to look out for? Obviously put it on make sure the lights work and that the rear screen also does, that the rear covers are there that hide the clips on the rear quarters....

Anything else?

Cheers!

Cheers for the info, your right it is the wrong time but I have agreed an excellent price on it even though its the time when everyone wants them!

That's about it apart from making sure coat hooks pop out. You may find it might need adjusting once it is on, hopefully not though.

Ok cool, I'll remember that! What's involved with adjusting them? Is it a DIY?

I think it is. Never had to do mine so don't know for sure.

I see, hopefully it will be ok!

Also I don't know if your aware but I've read that some hardtops can rub (and cause damage) on the painted section (kind of tonneau cover)/ the bit that goes up and down when the roof comes in and out of its compartment, is there anything to do to prevent that or is it just luck of the draw?

Ive had that on mine :-(

Its just the trim bit though, and is £120 from BMW.

I bought a whole new tenneau cover on ebay for 99p :-) and im going to strip the trim off and replace.

Im going to get my harttop wetsanded along the bottome edge to see if any edges can be taken off from the laquer etc, as its only happening in 3 places.

Cripes! All that just to get frustrated about not being able to put the roof down on the one sunny day we'll get in January!

Update with some pics!!!

I bought the hard top, its in mint condition, not one mark on either the exterior or the nice black headlining- everything works, the stand and cover are both genuine BMW items too, it even came with the book telling you all about it to go in the cars hand book!

Its finished in Carbon Black and came off a 53 plate M3, I thought it would look awful on there against the Velvet but it doesn't look too horrendous, it will be sprayed within the next few weeks, just gotta wait til after payday!

Anyway heres some pics!

Looks good, will look alot better once its colour matched. Feels nice having a solid roof on the car every now and again! :)

What percent tints you got on?

Yeah it is nice, there are a lot less rattles with the hard top on! Exhaust doesnt sound as throaty though but thats to be expected!

Tints are 65 all round. B)
