Ummmm on the spot :( lol

Ok here goes, ive had my ST for 8-9 months and i love it, in standard form it felt performance wise the same if not abit faster than the 330 ( being lighter abit more torque etc) the handling is great, theres tons of good reviews out there saying the ST is good in that department something vauxhall forgot about :P the tyre all round are 225 unlike the bmw where the rear is a 255 so ST is cheaper for tyres :)

It has enough grip to have fun the only way like all other cars your going to find the limit is on a track! If you do find the limit on normal roads you shouldn't have a licence ( imo :) ) saying that the steering is very precise, with 3 different settings depending how lazy you feel, sport, comfort and normal.

The Engine- its a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder 20v turbo ( thankyou volvo, but please stay off the road, you got a reputation for a reason  ) it has 225bhp and 320nm that torque is literally all available from the get go, iirc 1500rpm :) the car doesn't need to be worked to gain any real speed, unless of course your late for a manicure in which case floor it lol. It pulls very strong in all gears, EDITED ( thanks Chris) they have a 6 speed box.

The sound from the normal car ( un modified) is lovely, its very addictive! Deep growl from the 5 pot and pops and bangs galore :D

Sounds x10 better than all these 4 pot hot hatches :P

Boring part, running cost:

Tax- £240-260 Per year ( can't quite remember)

Tyres- depends what make mine are pirrelli p zeros £138ish a corner, just remember these are the only things keeping you in contact with the road.

Insurance- group 35 iirc

Parts- about the same if not alot cheaper than a 330

Fuel- i use my car on weekends, it is not my work horse, but motorways you can get between 35-38mpg town driving about 21ish mpg, remember on boost bye bye fuel, off boost ( boring but keeps wallet happy).

My car personally is a Facelift ST-3 the only goodies i don't have is the reversing camera and touch screen nav, but my car is very well equipped, it being a facelift got loads of optional extras thrown at it to help sell them as there comming to the end of there cycle, lucky me.

Modding:

Theres is tons and i mean tons of Mods to choose from, loads of different manufacturers offering great stuff. If you need help where to look im a pm away.

My car has had a single remap, which i have a hand held device from Dreamscience which holds 5 different tuning files i opted for DSci the most powerful for a standard ST from dreamscience, my car made 270bhp and 490nm torques on the rollers. EDITED: i also have Eibach lowering springs added with hunkers down the car giving it better handling and a better look. Just food for thought the power to weight ratio at the moment of my car is 194bhp/ton which isn't slow lol

But! The standard clutches aren't designed to go that high ( i personally haven't had a single problem apparently its a lottery) thats when you invest in an RS clutch £650-£800 max fitted.

Obviously is front wheel drive and off the lights its good but not as capable as a RWD bmw but as soon as its rolling its all good

Some people can't get over a badge "Ford" but i get cars not because of the badge but the way they drive and how happy it makes me feel :) the build quality is of a great standard obviously not in the same way a bmw or audi is etc... But your paying alot less. Room wise theres more room in my 3 door compared to the 330 coupe and more boot space.

If you need a full on guide on what to look for "buyer guide" i can pm a full one.

A great website where im a member of is www.focusstoc.com loads of info and inspiration.

Any questions ask away! Don't know what else to type :P

Heres a buyers guide i just copied :)

Hi folks,

I have decided to start a good buyers guide for second hand buyers with useful information.

I will make a detailed PDF in time with pics etc but would greatly appreciate loads of input so that potential buyers can start off with a good knowledge base before buying.

I was thinking the normal spec, optional extras and usual problems to mentions such as,

ST-1 Spec

(Easily identified by lack of headlight washer covers on the front bumpers)

Single Disc Ford CD Player

Recaro Sport Seats with Coloured Supports

Split Folding Rear Seats with 3x 3 Point Seat Belts

Continental Puncture Repair Kit

(ESP Standard 2008 Onwards)

ST-2 Spec

As above plus:

Xenon Headlights with Automatic Headlight Washers

Heated Windscreen

ESP (Included in ST-1 2008 onwards)

Single Disc Sony MP3 Player (Aux input in glovebox)

2 more speakers in the rear over the ST-1

ST-3 Spec

As above plus:

Full Leather Recaro Interior with Heated Front Seats

Sculpted Leather Rear Seat with 2x 3 Point Seat belts (strictly 4 seater only)

6 Disc Sony CD Player (MP3 Compatible 2007 Onwards)

Optional Extras

ESP (ST-1) (Standard across whole range from 2008 onwards)

Sunroof

Heated Cloth Seats - (ST-1, ST-2)

Sculpted Rear Cloth Seats with 2x 3 Point Seat Belts (strictly 4 seater) * Old option no longer available.

DEATC - Climate Control

Bluetooth Connectivity with Voice Control

DAB Sony CD Player

USB Input

DVD Sat Nav

Global Close - Gives 5dr's electric windows in the back. (windows also close when car is locked if lock button is held/open if unlock button is held)

Light and sight pack - Auto activation of front lights, auto wipers and auto dimming rear view mirror

Stripe kits - sides and over the top or both

Space Saver Spare wheel - Inc. jack, wheel nut wrench and rasied boot floor with storage pockets.

Upgrade to 6 CD changer on ST2

Rear Parking Sensors

Solar Reflect Windscreen

Key Free Entry

*Note - No ST comes with cruise control. Don't believe the classified ads!

Common Problems

Oil Filter Diaphram

MAF Sensor Problems

Seat Base Cracked

Alternator Failure

CV Joints

Power steering TSB

Drive Shaft TSB(no.64)

Rear Gearbox Mount

Side Skirts - Ensure on 3dr that the skirt is firmly attached to the bodywork where it meets the rear wheel arch.

ESP Module Failure

Wheel Breaing - Noticable by ESP system fault with 5th and 6th 'locked out'

etc.

I will edit this as and when more info comes along. Could be a great tool for newbies and help stop some duplicate threads.

For anyone who can't get over the ford badge....

ford-gt.jpg

And remember the E46 outsold the Ford Mondeo when it was in production, so the Mondeo is actually more exclusive

Hi Chaps, my previous car before my 330 was an ST2. Standard i would say its just as quick as a 330 but when modified it destroys it. My St was remapped , and had a wolf induction kit and exhaust and was running 295 bhp and 350 lb/ft.Up & running It was as quick in a straight line as an e46 m3 , and not too far off the pace of a 911 , he only passed me at silly speeds and was ragging the hell out of his engine. In fact after he passed me when we slowed down he gave me the thumbs up B)

My front tyres lasted for 7k miles though

I got my car for £14k brand new and spent £2k modifying it, an absolute bargain of a car!!

I'd get another one in a heartbeat, but i need an m3 now to get that out of my system... ;)

Just noticed focus is spelt wrong in the title lol

haha...yes good spot chris :D

ok..so i thought id check this out..and as luck would have it there was a nice st-3(55 plate)that had just gone up in the local sports garage, went in at lunchtime yesteraday..chap said it`ll be back from valeter`s in the afternoon,so i said ill be back today..,his collegue sold it within 30 mins of it being back!!!!!!...so with polar`s excellent info i think i`ll look into this as a serious propersition...especially after checking out the dreamscience site!!...

Well my insurance is would of been about £550 but because i've declared my Mods its £660, but there wasn't much difference between my clubbie and the ST it worked out cheaper by a small bit :)

If your looking for an ST have a look on that website www.focusstoc.com they have invaluable advice :)
