Singh
Anyone heard of these guys: http://www.diyparadise.net/bm54.html Site looks basic, and has some simple mistake - but putting that aside, they say they can repair a BM54 for £137 including collection and delivery by TNT/DHL. Thoughts?

Stan 24v
You learn something new everyday! My front speakers have always been muffled since Ive had the car. I changed the speakers to no avail so figured someone had bodged the wiring and never got around to looking at it properly. I need one of these kits now lol

XKaLiBaR
You learn something new everyday! My front speakers have always been muffled since Ive had the car. I changed the speakers to no avail so figured someone had bodged the wiring and never got around to looking at it properly. I need one of these kits now lol Stan, you might be able to repair it yourself. As your speakers still actually have power going to it, then you might just have to clean the circuit board. There is a part of the circuit board that starts getting this white residue on it. I have attached a picture. The picture shows a little, but I have seen that whole part of the circuit board covered in it. Buy some Electronic Cleaning Solvent Isopropanol from maplins. Get a tooth brush, and rub the circuit board where you see in the picture, and also the back of the unit, as you get some residue there aswell. Only use enough to clean it. Dont over do it. Dry it with a blow drier, but dont get it too hot. Leave it overnight, and replace back in the casing. If you still getting the same problem, then my repair will be able to fix your problem. Stan 24v
Thanks mate. Im pretty ok with soldering and using a bit of electrolube (avionics in RAF ) so that shouldnt be an issue. I'll have a play over Xmas hols and get back to you if I need some parts. I also spoke to John (ccfj) and he mentioned your name
XKaLiBaR
The soldering part is easy, its cutting the traces that is very difficult. The circuit board has 4 layers, so if you cut too deep, then the unit can become permanently damaged

Singh
Bryan, how does it sound compared to before it went away? Is there much to the "upgrade" in sound quality?
bryan
sounds much better than before, as i only had one side working, cd's sound fantastic, nice and clear with good bass, very happy with it, might upgrade the speakers to make it that bit nicer
