Rear Demister & Radio Interference

Recommended Posts

I have this also if I'm trying to listen to a station when out of its area.

I am led to believe one of the wires on the back screen is actually for the radio aerial?

I'm interested to kno more about this!

Aye aerial and window element are both in the rear windows on the loon and coupe. Not sure about the tourings.

Mine does the same as your when heater element is in for de-mist. Only ever use it for a couple mins anyway so not much bother to me.

You shouldn't get interference but the above is correct - on saloon and coupe the aerial is in the back window, so it's probably because there's a fault with your demister

It is worth removing the c pillar on the near side as that is where the aeriel amp is located, first place to start is to make sure the amp is earthed properly and all connections are good.

Unless of course you have a bar or two on the rear window that does not demist, then it would suggest the window is at fault

Thanks for that.

I've not been able to test the rear demister yet because despite all this rain, it's never misted up! Maybe it's on all the time ;)

Strange thing is, driving along today I randomly tried it again, and it worked fine - no interference at all. The only difference was yesterday when it happened I was stuck in traffic, today I was on the move. I'll try it again if I remember.

Cheers.

I had exactly the same problem, it's quite common. I sorted it by changing the antenna amplifier for a different type. This one http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649 is the one I fitted, which sorted the problem immediately :).

In fact, I think delmarco covered this in one his threads, but I'll have to search for it.

EDIT - Found it. It was actually part of a thread that was nothing to do with what we're talking about here, but it worked for me :D

3. 315 Mhz or 433 Mhz Antenna Amplifier for 9/2001 – 2006 E46 BMW. You need BMW Part No. 65256906075 for 315 Mhz or 65256906074 for 433 Mhz. You must replace it based on what was already in your car. If your older Antenna Amplifier said 315 Mhz you have to replace it with a new one that says 315 Mhz.

The DIY for this is at this link: http://forum.e46fana...ad.php?t=396343 or you can follow my pictorial DIY for doing it down below.

Take the map light out (it can be levered out with a flat screwdriver). There's a torx screw behind it (T25 iirc). Once that's out, pull the c-pillar cover out and forwards and you'll see the antenna amp behind it.

Thanks, I'll have a look next week if it's stopped raining.

Just did some more checks, and it only happens if the engine's running and the rear demister is on - bad interference. Switch the engine off (orange light on the demister button still on), and it's fine. Is this what yours was like?

Cheers.
