Sam
A friendly reminded to all, that any topic in the "for sale" area of the site is for adverts and buy/sell discussions ONLY. Please refrain from posting anything else in these topics. No, GLWS, no "too much", only relevant posts regarding a potential deal or questions regarding the item. Thanks. das_flo
Can you not deactivate the reply function in the FS section? Some other sites I use are set up like this. Just a thought.
Gaz
^^ The problem with that though is sometimes peoples comments can help. i.e. helping with price, where to advertise etc.... Maybe if all replies have to be approved? Although then we run in to the issue of it taking a while before the post shows up sometimes.
Blair
What's so wrong with discussion?
Gaz
What's so wrong with discussion? Nothing as long as they're actually to do with the sale and aren't just "GLWTS", "nice looking car" etc... etc... the "for sale" area of the site is for adverts and buy/sell discussions ONLY. Keith
I'm all for no discussion. Seller posts up item, with a price they want: people either buy it or not... Or open up discussions via PM directly with seller if they wish to discuss price. Private discussions about price are much better than public discussions - after all, sellers want top money, buyers want something for nothing, so it's only fair peoples opinions on the seller's pricing are dealt with them directly. PH Classified etc work like this fine...
SamN
I think it's a good idea to remove the option to reply on for sale topics. If someone wants to help (e.g. helping with price or where to advertise as Gaz said) they can always PM the person selling.

Pricing something isn't rocket science anyway, I don't know why people need help - look on eBay for guidannce, or just put it up for what you think is fair - if it doesn't sell, reduce the listing price. Easy.
Wash
I disagree, I think that some of this chatter helps the sellers and the buyers. A prime example of this is where Jay recently posted in my F/S thread commenting on how well priced the wheels I was selling were which in turn probably helped me get them sold. Buyers also benefit because if there's something amiss with something being sold then buyers can be made aware much easier, case in point the damage repaired gun metal M3 'vert that was being advertised not so long ago. If you're talking about people just saying GLWTS and that sort of thing then I agree, those posts are pretty much pointless. RickyZ

Sam
Yes, that is related to the sale. But alot of topics have discussions where someone asks what their next car will be, then it turns into 3 pages about the sellers new motor. We're not going to delete the odd "I paid more for some a month ago" kind of comments. Problem is, people don't seem to be able to stop themselves, and if these off sale posts continue, I'll just stop all comments and it'll hurt the forum more. Proffitt
So have all comments on For Sale items been removed then? I am with Wash on this one really, think some comments are useful and are needed. Also, bumping up a thread? That not allowd any more? Or do you need to start a new thread?
