Gaz
I'm not so hot with websites etc... but is the website not backed up every night (or similar)? If it is/was, is it simply a case of reinstatting the back up from post c**k up?
Sam
Its backed up every night, yes, but they only keep 10 days. So I can't go back to pre-hack
Colossuss
All the posts and settings are kept in the database aren't they (I havn't fiddled or seen the file structure for IPBoard)? Unless there is a lot of custom stuff on here, wouldn't it be an idea to re-upload all the files and reconnect it to the database? Could always make a subdomain, upload the files and link it to the database, check if that would work. Probably best to change the username/password for the database as well. Just in case

Just in case You're bang on, thats the plan if support cant sort it out. But, we have ~10 mods. Its going to be a good amount of time to remove all the files, reupload the forum, add the mods, connect to the DB, rebuild the caches and test everything. I have time to do it tonight, so if the support company havn't got back to me by then, I'll probably just do it. I do like your sub-domain idea, haven't thought of that. Could try that today and see if it works, in prep for tonight.
Colossuss
I do like your sub-domain idea, haven't thought of that. Could try that today and see if it works, in prep for tonight. You could always try and set it up fresh on something like http://forum.e46zone.com then move all the links to point there, only problem would be any Google search results would be lost and probably any topic links in the forum. Unless you can do a rewrite in htaccess to redirect any urls in e46zone.com/forum to go to forum.e46zone.com. I think that should be possible! Edit: According to this - http://webmaster.iu.edu/tool_guide_info/redirect.shtml - it should be possible. You would just need something like this in the .htaccess file: redirect /forum/ http://forum.e46zone.com/ Edited May 17, 2012 by Colossuss
Sam
If i do a clean setup, I've still got to do everything, so its irrelevant if I use a sub domain or wipe what we've already got. Of course I can get a snapshot taken by the host, so if it goes belly up I can just revert.
Colossuss
I was just thinking if you did a clean install somewhere else, there wouldnt have to be any downtime, then you can just redirect it anyway and delete the old version a couple of weeks later when you know its redundant Just a thought
Sam
Or, rename the current 'forum' folder to something else, change the settings to reflect this and put a redirect on everyone but me. I can then setup the new one in /forum/. Either way, its time and effort for me, and there will be some downtime. Its a forum, its not life critical, I will do it the way I think will work best to ensure its running long term. If that takes a few more hours, so be it. DaveGT
I'm running AVG has been problem free for years until last week when I picked up a virus that has wiped my laptop, system restore keeps failing etc luckily I keep most things on an external HD, hope it wasn't via the forum but I don't use many other sites. mjn
Loading the forum using IE, it just kills my internet connection for the rest of my tabs! Have to close IE and re-open to get internet connectivity again.
