Which New Satnav/bluetooth Replacement Should I Choose?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My name is Simon and I'm new here. I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as some of the other folks who have contributed to posts here, so sorry for my pretty simple question, but here goes.......

I have a 2003 E46 330ci and when I bought it from new it had sat nav / tv etc built in but it's now on the blink and pretty old fashioned. I'm looking to replace it but am confused by the choice that i've found through google, ebay etc.

I'm looking mainly for SATNAV & a speed camera alert & bluetooth so I can use my phone whilst driving.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks so much.

check out andrive on here

as you already have sat nav you will need the 5meter fakra cable as well, but you will be able to offset the cost of the unit against selling the OEM equipment

there is still a market out there for it

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for getting back to me. I bought my E46 from new in 2003 and could quite easily buy a newer shaped one, or even a 5 series as i'm now a middle aged dad, but i'm still in love with it, it's only done 70k miles and it still drives beautifully. So i figuer I will keep it for a few more years. That's mhy i'm treating myself to a new system.

I had the satnav new and it went on the blink 3-4 years ago, so a bmw dealer replaced it for a small fortune, but it's in the blink again. What I mean by this is that the satnav works fine for a half hour or so, then it blinks on and off then just cuts out. I have taken it back to the bmw garage but they don't seem to be able to find anything wrong with the electrics.

I have just looked at the andrive you kindly mentioned and it could well be what I need. Do I just buy a separate CD for speed cameras?

So are you suggesting that I could sell my existing system on ebay for parts to recoup some money towards the £600+ on the andrive?

Thanks for your patience with me. I'm trying to come up the curve on all this!

No cd needed. Just install a sat nav app that has camera support. Loads out there to choose from.

Yes the parts will be redundant once you have fitted the andrive. You may not get all your money back but I would imagine it would be close

I wouldn't discount the others so soon without a bit more investigation first, most of the units come from the same factory.

A few points for you to ponder:

I paid £280 for mine, I can't fault it in any way at all. And it does everything you've listed you want yours to do.

The bonus Andrive has over the others is you get support right here in the forum for it rather than from some Chinese dude. The Andrive fans will also tell you that it has internet so you can go online, get apps etc basically everything a smart phone would do. The fact I have a smart phone and always will means it just made going for Andrive an expensive gimmick for me personally.

What one do you have please mate, and where did you get it from? Do you have a pic of it please.

Whats the problem with the current unit in your car?

I looked at andrive, dynavin and all the other aftermarket units and the quality for me was just not as good enough

I have a dynavin clone and have no issues with it.Sound quality is great, sat nav is great, overall a great bit of kit.And there wont be any market for your old tv tuner as it will be anolog

and a digital hybrid is huge money, far cheaper to buy andrive, dynavin or a clone which will do everything and more.If you have the mark 4 dvd sat nav you may get a few pound for that,

but maybe that is faulty causing the issues you have now.Or maybe its your monitor that is acting up,if so plenty out there for handy money. But with the affore mentioned radios you do not need anything else i.e

everything in the boot becomes redundant. As topsod said do a lot of research to find a unit that suits you.

Thanks guys. you are kind to give me feedback. Based on what you've said so far, I'm tempted to go for the andrive, if I can get some money back for my current system. It's from a BMW dealer and is only 3-4 years old, so hopefully it is worth something to somebody.

What is the best place for me to to sell it? ebay?

Thanks!

Simon, to be totally honest, if you go for an andrive, you will either have no problems as mentioned above, or a world of problems like I have.

Currently have no GPS at all and it has never worked. Andrive to state that they offer support but not on a weekend, also been ringing today and no reply. Sent e-mails on saturday and still no reply, had to send another today. Its up to you, but i presonally wish id never bothered with andrive!

thanks TopSod. i've just put a bid in on e bay for £210. you're a real help. by the way, does the one you bought come with speed camera alerts? and how on earth will i fit it? i'm pretty useless at stuff like that.

Remember you need the fakra cable as all your current plugs etc are in the boot of the car. You should be ok with any cable but check with the seller 1st

Mine does come with alerts yes on the maps software that came with it. You can even choose the distance it alerts you by, and can have different distances depending on different speeds.

Because the maps software is on a supplied SD card, you can change it if you dont like it by installing new software onto the card.

Fitting was extremely easy as shown above by Daz, only thing I had to do was adjust the GPS plug on the back to make the unit fit in the hole, and I had to reposition my GPS receiver after a trial run as it wasn't picking up signal.

I now have it sitting on the bar (its magnetic) to the right of the unit inside the hole, where the yellow tape is in the picture above.

Anytime. Good choice on the dynavin. You going for the d99 android version.

The cable iirc is seats and carpet out job if done right. May be worth getting a quote off a local installer

Thanks TopSod, Daz, Siffion & everyone else. I'm going to buy a dynavin, and a fakra cable (whatever that is!), then i'm going to attempt to fit it - yikes.

Unless any of you know anyone near West Sussex who can fit it for me?

Where abouts ??

The unit looks identical to an enco wince model. You will need a 90 degree usb lead if you want to use the rear usb port.

There is a good thread on fanatics about this unit they have unlocked the os allowing installation of wince based apps

Google enco b146
