X5 Style 132's

Recommended Posts

I may have argued a deal on a set of these.

I do however have a few questions.

I read that 5mm spacers are required..?

I am gonna fit them initially on standard suspension and later with lowered springs, 40mm front and 30mm rear drop.

I do not want to roll the arches or do anything else to the body work..

Tyre sizes 255/35 rear and 235/35 front...?

Those are just my first thoughts..

My car is a 2002 320 SE Coupe.

Will I get the rears with a 255/35 in the back with no rubbing?

My original plan was buy 4 fronts and run 235 all round, this is still my preferred option, but fronts are harder to find without rears.

Any thoughts or advice or experiences are welcome.

I need to make a decision on these tomorrow.

Don't understand the problem with rolling arches.

If I could work out a way to run 4 10J rears we could buy 2 sets and swap lol

You probably could, but you'd have to go low to pull it off and you won't do that lol. You'd also have to run more stretch.

I see.

Ok I'll put my reasons out there..

Mint nearly standard car and want to keep it that way.

I regularly have 5 adults in the car.

As much as I like the look of a nice car, slammed, pimped etc do nothing for me.

I hate tyre stretch with a passion and when I am prime minister, stretched tyres will be illegal..!! :-)

No animosity to anyone in that lot, live and let live.

What I dislike is another mans passion fruit.

I really like the look of full arches on a car but only if it looks and feels right on my terms.

If you regularly have 5 adults in your car, then don't modify it at all, otherwise you'll look like drug dealers

When you bought your car did you check to see if the arches were rolled?

To be perfectly honest, if I was buying again, rolled arches would be a bonus. Chances are if they have been rolled then the liner has been removed and it has been undersealed correctly, thus less likely to fall to the woes of the rusty arches. Also a rolled arch will have less chance to catch dirt, another rust preventative

So really, it's a positive in all aspects

Also no one can tell you if the tyres will rub without knwoing the offsets of the wheels, post them up with the radius

Arches are standard, never been messed with.

The arches are mint and rust free, I wash under the arches every weekend when I do the car in an effort to keep it that way.

Trickster has run these wheels and has given me some very good advice.

He is adamant it will require an arch roll to run 10j style 132's on the rear, even on standard suspension.

I appreciate the fact you may not want to 'slam' or 'pimp' your e46. Like you say, each to their own.

Unless you're specifically looking for it, you wouldn't notice a rolled arch from a standard arch. The idea of rolling an arch is purely to fold the inner lip up, to accommodate wider wheels/tyres.

Don't get confused with pulling an arch, which would cause a visual difference to the exterior of the arch.

Rolling the arch wouldn't mean you have to stretch the tyres either (although fitting x5 wheels would), as I said just allows you to fit something wider.

Just trying to help that's all.

I appreciate you taking an interest and trying to help.

I really don't want to do anything to the car I can't reverse easily enough.

No going back from arch rolling.

I am gonna sit on my hands for now.

4 fronts is looking favourite...

For me that is doing it properly, buying wheels that fit without modifying bodywork.

I have mv2 reps at the moment, same size rims and tyres all round.

Some would also say that is a fail...?

Splitting two sets of wheels to make one set is a fail I'd say.

Depending on the offset, they might fit with no issues ;)

Again, fair enough adding reversible modifications for the sake of re-sale, but in general people won't look for rolled arches when buying a car and if it's done properly, no one would be put off by it. If someone is looking for rolled arches it means they're interested in rolled arches. If they're not, they probably have no clue and wouldn't be able to tell the difference that's all I'm saying.

Yes, some people probably would say 4 fronts of any wheels is a fail but it's your car at the end of the day, doesn't make a difference in the slightest what anyone else thinks :)

Sounds like you've already made up your mind though lol.

No offence to trev here but just want to back up what samN has said about the rolled arches, there is no visual difference or detrimental effect

I had mine rolled on my last coupe to accommodate style 32s & the arches would look no different to standard arches to joe public.

You'd have to be a major enthusiast to Notice.

Heavy rim that will only put ridiculous pressure on bushes. Rolling arches will be far less detrimental.

That said, any wheel like that needs to have a stretched tyre and a big drop. Regardless of what anyone says, holding back on any aspect and it will look s**t. Look at Ricky's car before he fitted the CSLs- it just doesn't work.
