Mr Squibbs
Hi Firstly apologies if this has been asked before - did run a search but didn't find anything I think I've read the 330i exhaust will fit the 318i providing a Y pipe is fitted, is this correct? Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for when searching for one? Mines a facelift coupe I appreciate I should have bought a 330i in the first place but with buying a house next year that wasn't really an option at this stage. Hoping the 330 exhaust will give a nice bit of noise? Also, will the twin pipes fit out of the cut out on the rear bumper ok? I've read it's the same on all of them, but it doesn't look big enough to take twin pipes....
Ferg
Also could anyone confirm if a 330 back box will fit a 320, and more importantly will it sound better, I'll be wedging the flap open of course
Wash
Yeah, you can fit a 330 exhaust to the 318 with a Y pipe since the 330 has 2 pipes in it's exhaust and the 318 has 1 pipe. The sound however will remain pretty much the same. If you want your exhaust to be louder, you'll need an aftermarket exhaust instead.
Shabaza
if you want twin pipe get 328 exhaust as it'll fit without y pipe. If you do golf tee mod it'll sound a bit raspier
marc l
I've done it It doesn't sound any louder tbh maybe slightly. I was thinking of removing the middle section
Mr Squibbs
Thanks for all the responses, so is it really worth doing? Whats the golf tee mod?
Wash
It's worth doing for the look since the twin pipes look way better than the single 318 pipe but if you're doing it for the noise then you will probably be disappointed. Mr Squibbs
Agreed to twin pipes will be a massive improvement, not expecting miracles noise wise, just a little bit better than it is would be good This golf mod sounds intriguing, ran search but cant a post which explains what it is and how you do it
Phantom Mark
Think of the extra weight ? If you just want the look then just fit the tips, if you want the sound then cut out your back box or middle box and replace with a blank pipe and then fit double tips for the look, best of both worlds. You simply would not believe how heavy the double pipe system is front to rear........... autosri and Gaz
autosri
ive just replaced my backbox with straight pipes and like you say mark the box weighs a ton

Doesn't really make a huge difference so like I said, if you want more/different sound, you need to go for a aftermarket or custom exhaust instead. Thanks for the advice ive just replaced my backbox with straight pipes and like you say mark the box weighs a ton Thanks for the comment, confirms the above There's a flap in the 330 exhaust which opens at high revs which makes the exhaust louder, the golf tee mod is where you permanently open the flap.
