chrisdM3
I'm looking at doing my wings on my 2003 m3, as they have just started to bubble so looking at replacing them can get them from euro car parts for 180ish each, is there other companies to try or am I better going to BMW for genuine wings, is there any manufacturer to stay clear of for nosey panels? chrisdM3
What sort of price are they? And who manufacture the originals?

Wash
A set of good condition genuine 2nd hand wings could be ok? As long as they don't have a spec of rust on them, you could treat them to some underseal and they should be fine.
chrisdM3
I don't want second hand wings as there going to rust, will see what my mate gets back to me with a price for genuine wings. Mine aren't that bad and are in better condition than any I've seen in eBay. The guy we use for painting says he won't paint my wings an to go with new wings as then he will treat an guarantee them for me do that's why I was going to go for new. Lee_h
I can understand wanting new genuine but patern panels never fit. Patern panels are hit and miss you do get some that fit spot on but it's luck of the draw
Marcus
Ive just got a pair for mine from shropshire no rust at all. one had a small dent that was removed easily. then rubber back all the inner edges.zinc primed and treated with bilt hamber underseal Saving of 300 the pair over new ones...and these wont rust neither
chrisdM3
Half the time the dealers use pattern parts tho so I'm trying to find out who manufacture the wings as then I know I can use them, although it is hit or miss with genuine parts sometimes as I've found out in the past with customers cars. Also Marcus is it m3 wings you got for that price if so that's good as I struggle to find any decent wings 2nd hand
Colossuss
Personally I'd never buy second hand wings either, they will just rust eventually, not worth the hassle If you get a patent part and are concerned about the fitment then just test fit them before you paint them, then you can send them back if they're rubbish. Let us know how you get on, I need to replace mine in the new year

Rust more but ul be getting new wings.. Oh and id wait until after the horrific weather has past aswel
Marcus
Mine wasnt m3 wings dude. but pre facelift saloon wings. very difficult to get rust free. I simply asked shropshire to find me some rust free ones and he came up trumps. I had some dealer new wings on my old e36 .fitment was spot on 1st time and the thickness of the steel was so much better than the pattern wing i removed. mjn
I'm also looking for some front wings to replace some rusty ones. Of the 2nd hand wings i've seen on ebay, most have some kind of rust. Think i'll be stumping up for some new geniune ones in the spring time. momo
Get these: http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/single_prod-cHJvZF9pZD0yMTIwJmNhcl9tYWtlPWJtdyZjYXJfdHlwZT1lNDZtJmNhdF9pZD00MiZjb21wX2lkPTg=.html They'll never rust again! You'll probably never eat again due to the price but what's more important? lol In all seriousness - OEM all the way. It's what I did. I got mine from bmminiparts.co.uk. Genuine BMW wings straight in from Germany already primed up ready to go on. My bodyshop added a layer of waxoyl to the insides before fitting them so shouldn't bubble up again for YEARS!! B7TMW
2nd hand wings is the way to go here if baulking at new genuine wings. Buy the cleanest you can and as long as to treat and protect them properly (which is what BMW never did), they will never be an issue in the time you own the car. It's all about getting it right when they are fitted then once a year cleaning it all out and re protecting them.
