bmwcrazydan
Hi all, I recently bought a 330cd on a 05 plate. i checked the tv when i bought it and their was a list of digital channels to watch and it worked fine. i got it home fiddled about and now have no channels and it is muted and the screen is flickering in tv mode.. Now maybe i have pressed something somehow that i shouldn't of. could anyone shed some light on how i can get it back to working? Cheers Dan
mit
Your car never came with digital TV, so if you had digital channels you either had an aftermarket digital tuner (unlikely) or you were actually getting analogue channels, which have all been turned off now due to the switch to digital. Or you might have picked it up from an area that still has the analogue signal and you live in an area where it's been turned off. It's a phased move to digital so the whole country isn't affected in one go... (although according to the website below it was all supposed to be finished in 2012)... http://www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk/ Edited February 27, 2013 by mit

I know in the 05 plate M3's they certainly come fitted with a digi tuner.

mit
Damnit! And the bastards still want to charge me £300 for fitting a dodgy DAB tuner that will add extra buttons glued to the dashboard :/ RickyZ

You can't retrofit the standard option DAB from current cars to earlier ones without breaking the connected drive option.

Rich_D
As stated already, you can get pukka digital tuners for the later E46's, but they are rare and fetch a lot of money secondhand However, you can now get the analogue ones upgraded by Baris >>> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DVB-T-Digital-Freeview-TV-Tuner-Upgrade-Service-BMW-2001-2006-Models-/111018391131?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19d936365b RickyZ

bmwcrazydan
It was defo digital as their were lots of channels like sky news,Dave, and about another 100 or so channels. And it was only a week ago it was working. The widescreen unit also connects to my I phone so could that mean it has the later unit fitted. The car is a 54 reg 05. Rich_D
Mine is a 54 plate, but still has the analogue tuner, upsettingly, you are lucky indeed as they are rare. You might need to do a system reset, try pulling fuses 7 & 41 for a few mins, then see if it works again, this trick seems to fix a lot of issues. Plymmatt
Might be a stupid response but have you done a retune / rescan? Might pick up all the channels again as you could have wiped them? I play footy about 25 miles away from where I live and the misses comes to watch she also likes to watch the tele and occasional it needs a retune to pick up all the stations depending on where I'm playing Rich_D

bmwcrazydan
I did do a retune but only had a blue screen. Which was muted. I thought being digital it would pick up channels quite easy?
DennisCooper
Hi, Firstly 100% confirm that you do actually have an oem Hybrid analogue/digital tuner. As you say you saw digital channels listed before, it sounds as though it 'is' one! Diagnosing over the internet with a vague description of 'had a fiddle' is very hard to diagnose - so check things like fuses to the audio setup, unplug and securely re-seat all connections between the various modules, check for any loom/wire continuity issues etc. Also see if you can try another known working Digital tuner in it's place as you might have a now faulty unit, and try your unit in another car with the same setup. You might also be in a weak signal area, so perhaps try driving to another location and re-trying. In short, you've got to start with fault finding basics! Cheers, Dennis! mit
bmwcrazydan
Hi Dennis I will try firstly driving to somewhere else to check If its just a bad area I live in. Everything else works perfectly apart from the tv function screen. I will repost if I find its just a bad area for signal etc. Dan
bmwcrazydan
Yay sorted I took out fuses 7&41 and now I have digital tv back :-) Rich_D
DennisCooper
Hi, Fault finding like this always finds the issue and this time it was a nice easy resolution. What happens if you put those fuses back? does the reception of DVBT disappear again? what do those two fuses do accordingly to the manual? you don't want something else to fail due to not fuses in place! Cheers, Dennis!
Trevor
I think he means removed and replaced.
bmwcrazydan
Yeah I removed the two fuse waiting a minute then put them back in and then retuned and hey presto it was back to normal. Dennis I think them fuses are just to control the stereo and nav etc so removing and refitting just reset them :-)

Rich_D
Dennis, those fuses cut the permanent 12v feed to the nav & audio, removing the fuses for a few mins (then replacing them) resets the system and fixes a multitude of errors
