Singh
Been looking at the Milbrook test site, and was wondering if they open their doors to car clubs. Reason is that it fits in well allowing you to test your car is conditions that are representative of real world roads, rather than on a track. Here it is on google: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sour...mp;t=h&z=15 And the main website: http://www.millbrook.co.uk/ Does that make sense? I would love a day there, range of different test features. However, I bet they do not open doors to car clubs etc - or only for a stupid amount of money. Does anyone know anything about this? Singh
I work with a sales director from Millbrook on a MOD vehicle procurement progamme. I will ask him when I see him next. That would be wicked mate! Please let us know how you get on, would be great to get an e46Zone day going on down there. Brunters is great, been there too, but its not really representative of how cars handle on the road, hence I would love a chance to try that here. E46ACS
Is this what you are after? www.catdrivertraining.co.uk Full event details in CAT's own words. Performance Driver ‘Track’ Day An action-packed day run by CAT Driver Training Ltd at Millbrook Proving Ground. CAT Driver Training is run by Colin and Jo Hoad. Colin used to work for a leading motor manufacturer in the UK as a Vehicle Evaluator and Driver Trainer and has gained extensive experience and qualifications in driver instruction including relevant approved roadcraft training as well as the infamous Nurburgring in Germany. His life has been spent working with his passion: motor cars - from racing minis to the race preparation of performance cars. He has much experience of vehicles on both road and track and brings a very different approach to driver enjoyment. The day is a fast moving experience for 8 owners and their cars to introduce the secrets of performance driving. It is designed to be informative, exciting and fun. The group size is purposefully kept small so that the maximum can be obtained from the day in a highly personalised environment. There is access to the 5 unique circuits at the renowned Millbrook Proving Ground, a venue that is not normally accessible for ‘track days’ and the general public. Activities designed for the different circuits are: Learn ‘threshold’ braking from 100+mph on the ‘Mile Straight’ High speed driving, potentially to the maximum of your car, on the banked circuit of the ‘High Speed Bowl’ Drive the demanding ‘Alpine Route’ circuit with its hills, and variety of corners from hairpins to long and sweeping Take on the tight, twisty and challenging ‘Handling Circuit’ Put a car through its paces on the wide open spaces of the ‘Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron’ An instructor will accompany you on all the circuits, and the objective is to teach you how to get the best from your car and develop your performance driving skills in a controlled environment and at a pace you are comfortable with. Short presentations in vehicle dynamics will help you to understand the relationship between driver input and vehicle balance and control. From this comes the appreciation of how to safely drive your vehicle at ‘grip limit’ within the controlled confines of a track environment. At the end of the day, your new found skills can be put to the test in a timed ‘shoot out’ around a gymkhana-style course laid out on the ‘Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron’. This will be conducted in one of CAT Driver Training’s track prepared cars (normally a Subaru Impreza or a Caterham 7). Included in the day are: Professional in car tuition Access to 5 unique circuits at Millbrook Proving Ground Mechanical support from a professional race engineer Lunch and refreshments during the day Timed end of day ‘shoot out’ in one of CAT’s track prepared cars Full emergency services on hand all day 1½ hours driving time with your personal instructor Price £375 per person Performance Driver ‘Track’ Day Schedule 08:30 – 09:15 Coffee, Introduction, Licence Check, Scrutineering, Safety Briefing & Objectives of the Day 08:15 – 08:20 Drive to Circuits 08:20 – 09:30 Mile Straight 09:30 – 10:40 High Speed Circuit 10:45 – 12:15 Handling Circuit 12:15 – 12:45 Lunch 12:45 – 14:20 Alpine Route 14:20 – 15:00 Open Practice – Handling Circuit 15:10 – 16:00 Gymkhana timed ‘Shoot Out’ – Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron 16:10 Presentation & Debrief Any Questions End
Singh
Cat drivier training sounds good, but getting on for £400 - its a lot of money. But then there is a lot inlcuded i guess. What do you guys think? Also, would you use your own cars or hire one of their fleet cars?
Daz 330 Cs
£400 sounds a bit expensive , plus its a full day there so would be bored after a few hours , Millbrook sounds much better, that way we can all thrash it round the track a few times , have coffee then bugger off
Singh
Daz, the CAT driver training is at Milbrook mate. The first link i posted had a lower starting price (but i bet this is nothing like the CAT one). I might find out, as I dont really want to do the whole CAT thing and repeatedly accelrate and brake in my car to learn about it etc. I was looking for for a no-speed limit run around an interesting more real-world track. Singh
Cool. Well I emailed the contact at www.driven-ltd.co.uk to find out whats included in the £150 + VAT package. This is the reposne (sorry its long). We offer three options for our Millbrook experience course; The first option (Bronze)* is approx 1.5 hours in duration and consists of 30 minutes on the road and an hour at Millbrook and costs £150 + VAT (includes venue hire and 1 to 1 instruction at all times) This is a great opportunity to drive the wonderful roads of Millbrook and will provide you with about the same time driving as a typical track day, full instruction is given throughout the session as required. Naturally the time can go quite quickly and therefore this option works best if you have a particular subject that you wish to work on. *this option requires us to have a minimum of two bookings for this course on the same date so availability can be more limited at times. The second option (Silver) is approx 4 hours in duration and consists of two hours on the road and two hours at Millbrook and costs £300 + VAT (includes venue hire and 1 to 1 instruction at all times) The first two hours on the road allows the instructor to get to know you and to observe how you handle your vehicle so as to build a picture of your normal current driving style. This will allow him to highlight specific points in the rest of the session to focus on the areas of most importance. The remaining two hours spent at Millbrook then allows for the time there to be put to immediate beneficial use in developing your driving skills and allowing you to enjoy the wonderful roads and tracks of Millbrook Proving Ground. The Third option (Gold) is approx 6 hours in duration and consists of 2 hours on the road and four hours at Millbrook and costs £545.60 + VAT (includes venue hire and 1 to 1 instruction at all times) This naturally allows for a lot more time and therefore practice of techniques at Millbrook and can be quite demanding on levels of concentration and fitness. There is of course more time to cover techniques generally and some lunch and rest breaks as required.
vikz
silver sounds good to me as its not too long and you get to focus on what you are weaker on-sounds great
Singh
Vikz, I was thinking more like the bronze package as £300+vat is a fair bit of money to spend on a few hours. But then it might be good.... Anyone else got any input? Anyone one else interested?
