2004 E46 M Sport Touring Towbar

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Just bought myself a Trails bike and trailer and now in need of a towbar on order to get it around.

I have seen a used detachable bar with electrics (very reasonably priced) and was wondering if anyone had any Howtos on fitting / wiring this ?

Or should I pay more and have one supplied and fitted (only swan neck type though)

I live in Belfast and the local towbar agent doesnt do detachable :-(

Do electrics plug into a designated socket in boot or is it a job of scotchlocks ?

All help and advice greatly appreciated.

If you dont want to ruin the lines of the vehicle and want a removeable the only one me and a mate (I have a coupe, he has a touring) is made by Witter and cost around £170 on Ebay. Fitted it took my mechanic an hour but that wasnt with the electrics. It did come with electrics. The only thing you'll have to do it cut a square out of the bottom of the black plastic valance. If the instructions say an amateur can do it I reckon its possible. The rear bumper is easy enough, the supports are just bolted on too.

I thinnk my friend had to tap into a set of electrics in the boot, its certainly not plug and play. However they do supply everything needed including an instruction manual. might be worth taking the time over and Id imagine getting some shrink wraps would help. If you want me to have a look in detail at the instructions and wiring I can.

I have a tow bar on my touring that sounds like the one above. Will be taking it off shortly if ur looking for a second hand one. Only thing missing is the eye itself, although I haven't looked properly and may be in the boot!!

Cheers
