Stewart Hall
I've started to take a look into this recently so would be keen to find out what others recommend too. As far as I can tell you can fit either 13cm or 17cm speakers with adapters in the front door and the same in the rear (but apparently the rears are a pig to get to). Pioneer seem to do a good range BUT it appears to be a minefield regarding which model to buy. I don't know whether to go for 2 way, 3 way or coaxial etc... I think coaxial won't go well with to tweeters in the front but I don't know much about types of speakers so could be wrong. Most of what I've read has said a change of head unit is advisable if you want better sound but I want to keep the OEM look in my E46s. I'll be watching this to hopefully gain some insightful knowledge (sorry I haven't helped dannyboy759) ;-) Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
piper1st
I've not done this myself, but I can share what i've leart so far ... Sometimes half the battle is knowing what to search to find out this stuff, as it has been well covered on this forum before. Try using all/some of these brand names as they are always mentioned. Rainbow Audio focal I too would love to upgrade the audio in my touring as the standard setup lacks bass, but from what i've read, replacing the headunit (HU) is the first port of call for better sound. I read the standard HU puts out 4x15w, which would explain a lot. I have the nav screen, so changing the headunit is out straight off. There are people who modify the stand headunits by beefing up the internal amps or provide RCA outputs for use with an external amp. In terms of speakers, from what i've read the main issue is that BMW don't use a normal fitment, so only expensive speakers are a direct replacement. However, there are adapters available so you can fit other brands. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope this gets you started.
