Mengwalton
I think this small flaw is potentially the least of peoples worry with the 5s, the fact it is potentially uploading millions of innocent peoples fingerprints to the NSA databases without your consent is of more concern ! The NSA already have my prints. Last time I was in the USA (probably 2005) they fingerprinted me at the airport Ditto, when I was in the US with work last year I got finger printed, I was meant to be going next week as well, but that's cancelled now. I've nothing to hide...They took my Prints and DNA when I got my C1/D us visa, there probably stealing my identity for some cia guy as we speak ha and mit - yes there is if your on a decent network also it wouldnt have developed a problem to start with ;p okay I get your point I just don't like Apple's Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Daz 330 Cs
So I'm in the apple store a year after the iPhone 5 came out, with a small problem with my camera. They are replacing the phone. Is there any android phone I could get where I decide to pop into the store on a whim and come out with a replacement within 20 minutes? Okay I happened to have insurance on it and had to pay a small excess (20quid) but still it was 2years old, my new phone insurance however the excess is 80quid but I wouldn't have to pay that for a manufacturing defects such as the camera going tits up unless it's got a obvious massive dint in the side ect. I suppose it comes down to personal choice at the end of the day had a HTC then a apple then HTC's since then didn't hate it just didn't like the operating system same as mac love some of the designs (mac book air) just hate the osSent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
mit
Everyone who links how decent the network is with how likely you are to get a manufacturer replace the phone is missing the point. I could have bought my iPhone at any apple store in the world (just so happens I bought it at Covent Garden) and they would have replaced it within 20 minutes at any store in the world. Yes if I was on a particular tariff and I'd paid the £200 extra worth of line rental compared to buying it offline they'd replace it, though probably not immediately in store. Yes I could have claimed it on insurance and after weeks of wrangling with them as they tried to fob me off with an equivalent replacement handset after asking me for the £20 or £50 or whatever excess I would have got a new one. But if I'd just bought a Samsung or HTC or any other phone for that matter, replacing it is a case of sending it off to the authorised repair centre and waiting ages for it to come back, and I'd have got the same knackered, dented, scratched up phone back. With apple I got a brand new one, no fuss, no messing about. If I was out of warranty they'd have charged me £170, not made me buy a whole new phone at full price. And that's why I have one. It has nothing to do with what I can afford or what operating system I prefer (I'd still rather have windows mobile 6.5 with SPB mobile shell) and everything to do with it making my life simpler, not more complicated. Rich_D
Apple are the only ones who make both the hardware & software, there are no HTC or Samsung shops as far as I am aware, so it's not really a fair comparison, especially as you don't buy them direct from the manufacturer, they are supplied by a network/retailer. This is why you pay a premium price, for a premium phone, with a premium customer service though... Gaz

Apple handsets supplied by a network as you say, will still be replaced by an Apple store if faulty so the comparison is still valid Ps. The cost of the latest HTC or Samsung is right up there with Apple now so they're all a "premium" price The fact still remains, Apples customer service is second to none mit
floss_regularly
Is the screen tougher on this new one? Loads of mates with iPhones have complained of broken screens after minor drops and spills....can't say the same of HTC or Samsung. Just been comparing prices between an iPhone 5S and an HTC One, yes the HTC is now in the 'premium' price bracket, but it's still cheaper for the phone, you can also get them on a lower contract, certainly on O2 Refresh £12 HTC vs £17 iPhone, so the over all cost over say a 2 year contract is still quite a saving. I was not disagreeing, Apple customer service is great and I have an iPhone myself Gaz
mit
You have to compare offline prices to be fair, not network subsidised contract prices. Also apple stores will look at any iphone no matter where you bought it. I could have bought mine second hand on eBay and I would have got the same treatment. Mengwalton
Oh so this is only when it's in warranty? The networks I've been with will replace any phone there and then when it's still in warranty and is obviously not accidental damageI'm getting far too much into this hahaSent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2 Edited September 22, 2013 by Mengwalton
Gaz
The argument is stupid. To say Apple have anything but great customer service is ridiculous. To compare a company that has stores in most towns and one that's only online is also ridiculous. It's like moaning that you bought a toaster from Amazon and can't take it back there and then. If you wanted that luxury, pay slightly more and buy one from John Lewis. Both phones are on par with each other. One may do something slightly better, another may do something else slightly better. Between Apple and Samsung, they own 43% of the smart phone market share (30% Samsung, 13% Apple). You don't get those kinds of figures by selling s**tty phones. Gaz
Samsung has twice as many users than apple? Wow didn't expect that. According to the latest figures they do. If you look at the OS side of the market, 79% of all smartphones shipped in Q2 were Android. That's the joy of allowing other manufacturers to use your OS though I guess. Apple would hold equally big of a share had they released theirs to other developers I'm sure. If that's correct, I'd guess many Apple users ( like me ) got bored of the same old same old from Apple and jumped ship Apple havevn't owned the market share of the OS side for a long time now (if ever). I went back as far as Q2 2009 then got bored Again, that's not me saying Android is better than iOS, or samsung is better than Apple though. Apple chose not to let other manufacturers use their OS or else I'm sure they'd have a massive market share similar to Android now.
