mit
It wouldn't surprise me if the entire chassis is different from RHD to LHD... Stuff like the steering wheel and pedal offset is much higher on a RHD compared to a LHD for example. And there might be differences in the transmission tunnel to accommodate the handbrake being on one side or the other, or the exhaust having to route around the steering column etc. Still, be interesting to see the project anyway. But I don't think this is a simple case of unbolting parts and bolting new ones on. If it was a unique car I'd understand but an E46 is far from unique! simonlpearce
If it were me i would be speaking with some breakers in Europe and possibly buying a rear ended donor car to take everything from. Wonder what the law over there is on dual controls, surely this would be a much easier route to go down, lol.

thepit
According to realoem, the LHD and RHD convertibles have different part numbers for the body skeleton. Unless that's just an identifier So it could be your project is doomed from the start? That's really inspiring lol

thepit
Little update, I found a place in the UK that do the conversion for £800, plus £500 on parts (dash + sterring rack), the problem is that after asking for pictures of previous jobs and other info they came up with this... "We do not have any pictures as we never needed them , we have done over 25 cars ,in the past year, as people prefer to get them done in africa as it is cheaper.our work is guaranteed. You only pay us after you are fully satisfied. What we is change dash and steering rack , we make sure the car is retracked and drives in a straight line, also all your dash lights are going off. But if u have some that does this kind of work then u can buy the dash and rack from us and get them to convert for u. We dont mind at all. As our main business is selling lhd cars , and dash kits." So, I am not so confident about they work.. I'll keep looking, it would be great to have it converted here so i can drive it straight away when I arrive to Paraguay. Cheers. thepit
dash and steering rack only? dash yeah but surely you can use your old steering rack? or are they different ? Steering rack is different, steering column is the same, but there are other details as well and if you want to do it correctly you need to get wiring set and pipes for the vents, so you can keep all functionallity re A/C / Heater and ventilation. I am investigating quite a bit, dash and steering rack is the absolute minimum you need to leave it "working", but I want it perfect cos01

thepit
Update, I found a guy I know that is now back in Paraguay, he took his 3 series with him and did the conversion over there, he says it's very happy with the result, everything works, he didn't need to buy any parts and the total cost was around £500. He will be sending pictures of the work, so as soon as I have them I will share it with you. Can't wait to see that Cheers
