My car has an old Nokia phone cradle (currently stuffed in the glovebox and not used). One of these days I'm going to completely get rid of it and this question will probably answer itself. Anyway, the question is, where exactly it is connected to my head unit, I took out my head unit yesterday and couldn't work it out. I had assumed all the wires would run to a second aux connection at the bottom of the main wiring loom, but from what I could see the only extra connection at the bottom I have is the cd changer in the boot. My car is a 330D saloon, '02 plate. Basically, I'm assuming once I take out more of the centre console bits, I presume I will find the cables from the phone kit reach some kind of adapter which then feeds into the steering wheel and/or back of head unit? piper1st Posted February 2, 2014 Report Share Posted February 2, 2014 I have one of these too. I always thought about keeping it. Getting your hands on an old nokia is cheap and easy! You could get a free Pay as you Go sim and use it as a tracker. There are a few websites with "how to's" for this, read it in a magazine a couple of years ago too. redliner4 Posted February 3, 2014 Report Share Posted February 3, 2014 Hi, i've just got myself an E46 318ci that had a nokia phone kit. My connection had a black box fitted behind and under the Hvac control, this was covered in a felt type material, once you have found it remove the wires, but do not unplug the electrical connection as you will loose the front speakers as i did, however it was resolved with plugging the electrical plug back in. So, as posters have mentioned the phone was not connected to the car speakers, instead there was a small speaker screwed in the passenger footwell behind the glove compartment. Anyway, because of another job I did today, I had cause to remove the glove compartment today and found that whoever installed this unit was clearly a professional, very neat and tidy job.The speaker, microphone, antenna and thick black cable ( I think supplying power) were all taped neatly together several times and all fed into small black unit that was firmly stuck down in the white plastic box behind the glove compartment. All the cables neatly unplugged from this unit, so I left the unit where it was. There was also a small thin cable attached by a screw here as well acting as earth, so I removed this as well. I completely removed the phone and microphone after a lot of faffing, and fortunately for me all my car speakers still work. I've disconnected the phone from the aerial and all is back to normal.
